Help with a first build for work

To be honest, if they do the job and they have a warranty its okay yes. I am looking to order within the next few days. However, if they are genuinely more likely to fail then no.

Here's hoping I have this right.

I know I am missing windows, and a power supply. I was just wondering, if it were you, which components in my build would you sacrifice.

Would I notice the shift down to an i5 more than a shift down in the graphics card / motherboard?

Also, post build how easy would it be to upgrade a graphics card if needed? As I am leaning towards sacrificing that.

The Haswell CPU doesn't work on that mobo fella. As that i7 isn't a "K" you don't need a Z series mobo you can use the B85 I spec'd before.

GPUs are a drop in upgrade fella. Not hard to do at all, the system will have integrated graphics so you don't need one as such, just add one if you feel it necessary later

How would the system function with no graphics card at all? would that play football manager? I'm probably better off with a cheaper one over none at all I suppose.

Also, I am definitely going to go with the:
Gigabyte KM6150 Keyboard and Mouse Set £9.98

It makes the build a little cheaper and if I have any issues with it I can always upgrade that with ease from my own pocket. With the difference, I'll get the 2.1 speakers

Honosuseri, if you don't mind my asking, what do you think of the most recent potty build?

From personal experience and reading reviews, I'd not want to touch cheap 2.1's, cheap 2.0 speakers can sound a bit tinny, but I'd rather that than Tinny with a lot of bass.

I've always found Creative speakers to be reasonable anyway.

No offence either way though mate, I'm happy to agree to disagree. ;)

I can whole heartedly recommend JBL Creature Speakers. They are 2.1 speakers as requested and they sound excellent - not tinny and one can adjust the bass and treble.

We have two sets (the Creature IIs and the Creature IIIs). We have had the Creature IIs about 3 years and they are still performing exactly the same as the day we bought them.

They might not be massively cheap, but they are blooming good for the price.

Not much really fella. OCZ PSUs are known to have pretty loud fans. The 7750 isn't really worth a rub. I bought a Nvidia 1GB 460 from here almost two years ago (still has a years warranty left on it) for £100. It still soundly spanks the 7750 (see HERE), to add insult to injury my 460 came clocked out the box @763Mhz which is faster than what was used in that benchmark. I've OC'd it further to 850Mhz and it's still doing me more than fine and my gaming habit seems to be worse than yours lol

If you are clever with your cash and get the right parts and balance things well, the rig can do you for a very long time for all sorts of uses ;)

It might be best to do a build minus the gaming GPU. See how you get on with the CPUs integrated graphics, Haswell has an improved IGP over sandy and Ivy. I've seen 460s go for £50ish on our members market 2nd hand, if you are parting with your own cash that's still not bad at all for the money. You could buy a new GPU yourself, if it comes with games you can either keep them or flog them off to help pay for the upgrade.

That's the thing really, for under £20 I cant see any 2.1's being much good.

The reviews for creatures seem very good.

From our experience, we originally purchased some Logitech 2.1 speakers for approximately £30 a few years ago, as we thought that these would be good enough. However, they were terrible - they distorted very easily. This was after owning the Creature IIs so maybe that didn't help - having something so good to compare the Logitechs to.

We then got the Creature IIIs instead and they were so, so much better. I can't say they are a massive improvement over the IIs, but I think they were a very similar price anyway.

I think this may be the way forward, with the integrated graphics, will the 3D match engine on football manager function? Or does anything 3D need an added card?

Which Power supply would you recommend?

Do you have a link. To be honest though, speakers aren't a massive issue. I just need sound for e-conferences/ lectures.

Yeah I think it would cope ok with that fella......

Haswell IGP is running on the right

Cheapest PSU I'd buy would be the XFX 450W which is made by Seasonic (ie its very good). Ideally I'd like a semi-modular PSU, so something like the Corsair CX500M

That's what I'd "Milk" them for and add a OS (there is a free 3 month trial of windows 8.1 you can use) and maybe the GPU I wanted out of my own pocket, although I'm sure the IGP will do you just fine really.

Includes the OS but it's 75P over. I'm sure you can alter the spec slightly with a cheaper case or change the PSU etc. Prices change so it's just to give you an idea.

You could save a bit of money and get a 4670K over the 4770K. You won't really notice the difference in games.

It is a work machine technically, no doubt that's why he doesn't want "Gaming mouse" in the spec ;) The i5K is plenty good enough but I have a feeling his software could well make use of the Hyperthreading on the i7
