Hi all i am posting on behalf of my friend who just rang me on the phone.

He is completing his first build. He installed everything and was then installing windows 7. His computer then shut down after 50% and will not turn back on. He thought it was the CPU cooler at first as he thought it popped up slightly. He has amended this to his knowledge, but the computer still wont turn off. He has power to the motherboard as the mobo lights are all on. Just not start up.

Is they anything that could be causing this please, I know its difficult to diagnose with very little information.

Kind Regards

Id leave it for a while, if it did overheat it might need to cool for a bit.

What had popped up from the CPU? Its possible if the fan wasnt fitted he has blown the chip

Hey guys have the computer here now. What happened was this. Placed everthing into the machine and only connected the 24pin mobo, 8pin cpu and graphics card + ram. Turned machine into standing position and turned it on. Everything worked fine so I turned it off, and piece by piece added each new part.

Everything was going grand. Once everything was connected we put windows 7 in and started the installation. Around 30% of the way through the installation the machine turned off.

After messing around with the machine I cannot get it to boot up again.

Do you think its worth taking everything out and trying again ?

I5 2500K
CORSAIR TX650 Psu
Asus 480 gtx
Asus p8p67le mobo
8gb xms3 corsair
500gb seagate barracuda hd
Lg Blue ray rom drive

Stulid ?

Right bareboned the machine reapplied thermal paste ( arctic pro 7 ) still no power only with the 24 pin 8 pin and gpu + 1 stick of ram :(

Try a clear CMOS.

Try one stick of ram, rinse and repeat for all sticks.

Do the case/cpu attempt to spin?

Try the paper clip trick on the PSU, google it.

Ok will do guys ill change the ram aswell.

At the moment jordan there is literally nothing :( although there is a power led on on the mobo that is on. So mobo is fine im guessing ? Its a green led.

Tried the cmos out changed the ram sticks, still nothing no activity from the fans or psu. It doesnt even try to boot up just stays off.

Still nothing guys :( any other ideas

Don't make that assumpiton just yet, My asus rampage delxue was still recieving power, but wouldn't turn on as my psu had killed my entire system.

Try another psu/mobo if possible?

Ok so there is power being supplied to the motherboard, which rules out that the PSU has failed.

Have you plugged in the 6pin/8pin power connectors to the GPU?

Yeh i Have ill take a photo now and link it so you can see what I have plugged in at the moment its the bare neccessities.

Did you use standoffs? Could be that the motherboard is hitting the metal on the moterboard plate

if it only shut off DURING windows installation, it seems like either a stability problem (cpu/ram/gpu) or a PSU probem, however your PSU is find for the build,
