Hi All,
I'm looking to build a new computer for a friend and without wanting to sound like a broken record... I know about hardware how it all goes together but I've not built anything new in a very long time (I'm still rocking a 2500K!!) and would like some help in choosing the components.
I've looked at both teams, red and blue and have no preference of one over the other. I quite like the idea of an Intel mid range chip but I'm pretty sure an AMD will suit his needs also. If I could get a couple of options for both that would be great.
It will be used for mainly for work purposes, large spreadsheets/Word documents and would even like to load up a couple of VM's. Not a huge gamer but would like the option to play a few at a reasonable frame rate if the opportunity arises (nothing more than 1080p). Also would like to use it to watch a few movies and browse a few photo's etc nothing else too demanding.
A couple of other requirements, it may occasionally be connected to a tv so it will need a HDMI connection. I have an OS, Monitor, KB, Mouse and case is a personal choice so that can be left out too. I understand ill have to check clearances with CPU coolers and RAM when we come to purchase. Now its a lot to ask but the budget is £500, or as far under this as possible. Its a lot to ask but I'm sure you geniuses can work your magic.
I do have a couple of quick questions. Ram speed, im guessing on a build like this 1600MHZ will suffice but whats the difference between this and say... 1866 or 2300? In a gaming rig how much of a difference does this make?
Also is it worth waiting for Intel's new chips to be released? are they going to offer a significant performance increase worth waiting for (or will the older chips drop in price enough to be able to pick up a bargain?).
As always, thanks in advance for your help!
