Hi

i am new here but thought i shoudl get some expert help before i attempt this project. I guess memory is the write section to place this under as it is a memory query.

Anyway.....

My aim in about 5 or 6 weeks time once i get paid for some summer work while i am off uni is to upgrade my pc with the following kit :

1 x Asus Striker Extreme nForce 680 (Socket 775)
1 x Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz
2 x OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8500 1066MHz SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel DDR2
[4gb total]
2 x 7950 GX2 - 1GB PCI-E Graphics Card [To use quad sli]

I will keep the currrent case and power supply and sata drives as they are more than adequate :)

my problem is relating to the "sli-ready memory" i know the striker extreme supports ddr2 800 but it also apparently supports "sli-ready 1200mhz" memory.

My question is therefore will the pc2-8500 sli-ready memory work?

firstly because of the type of memory it is ... i have searched the net and cannot seem to find a straight answer regarding sli-memory and secondly due to the infamous memory glithces with the 680i platform, although these ae apparently fixed by supplying the correct voltages as the striker extreme requires a good 2.1v to get going :) not the 1.7v or 1.8v that is automaticaly set.

any advice is greatly helpfull :)

Thanks

yeah the 8500 works fine crucial ballistix 8500 is sli ready too even though it isnt advertised as it

perfect, so because it is sli-ready memory it will adjust to the maximum the board allows or the maximum your ram allows if less than the board?

:D

it just sets the timings for you and does an auto overclock on the cpu... pointless if your gonna overclock anyway but its an extra feature

so how come it would allow me to use pc8500 sli instead of standard pc6400 :S

sorry, i have never used sli before.. infact i purposefully avoided sli when i built my last pc about 15 months lol for the pure reason of how many errors there were with it :)

infact more to the point ....

will the pc8500 run at that speed i.e. does sli ready 1200mhz mean you can use ram up to 1200mhz whatever that is... pc9600 or something :S

** update **

after looking around and realising that 2 x gx2 7950's won't support dx10 i have decded to sli 2 8800 gtx's instead still giving 1.5gb memory but a lot faster hopefully :)

still need reassuarnce on the ram though :)

thanks

the sli memory (ballistix anyway)
if you enable it and turn it to the highest overclock will run 1066 @ 4,4,4,12 t2 thats the diffrence but if your manualy overclocking this is pointless

also you wont have 1.5gb of ram as it is 768 and it mirrors the ram
