Hi guys, wonder if you'd help me with writing a letter to Virgin credit card appealing on a decision to refuse me credit.

I missed 2/3 payments on a Tesco credit card within the last 6 months, due to mistakenly using the wrong credit card and then not getting bills because they were being sent to my old address.

Just wondering if anybody has any suggestions on how to write the letter? I don't want to be too grovelly or waffley, so help in this regard would be appreciated. :D

Cheers.

Writing to them isn't going to do anything. By missing a payment you have put a mark on your credit record (I have loads) and in the current climate lots of places won't lend to you. You either have to bide your time and don't go overdrawn or miss any payments on anything, or get an easier credit card (more security or more interest), and make sure you use it and pay on time to bring your credit rating back up ahead of schedule.

I explained to the woman on the phone the situation - that I had used the wrong card by mistake, and due to work relocating me had not got the post demanding payments - and she said that on this basis there was a good chance that my application would be granted if I were to appeal.

Wouldn't writing to experian or equifax to amend your credit rating be of more use?? Not sure how much compassion they have for errors like this though

OP if you must, do the above, and make up as much lies as possible so its completely not your fault even in the slightest....

virgin would not care even if you sort your rating out, but another card might be all good....

ive been building my credit rating since i got my first card when i was 18, although i have never been employed ive convinced them my wage is in the 40% income tax :D.. going good so far but trust me, dont bother with your letter to virgin, waste of time.

Why do you want another credit card? Would an overdraft be better?

+1

If you're already missing payments on one card, what do you need another one for except to increase your debt and thereby your misery?

both of you didnt read properly... he is prob using BT's and thus as virgin has the longest 0%... the missed payments were not to do with affordability

Uhh isnt that classed as fraud ? You've lied to obtain credit.

Yes it is fraud.

I never said he had a problem with affordability, you didn't read my post properly. My point was that CCs are some of the most expensive credit about. Maybe another option would be better suited.

Your best bet would be to apply for a card with your bank, they are most likely to give it to you as they know all your financial history.

fair enough, i didnt think you thought OD is better - but im currently paying 2.98% for 16 months on a virgin credit card.. (2.98% BT fee, and 0% interest for 16 months / £25 a month only)

i have £1800 interest free overdraft too, but i dont use that its a student account.

what rates do you expect on an overdraft?

Hang on a moment. You're saying you're paying 2.98% on a CC but you're not using an interest free overdraft?:confused:

the credit card is £4000 BT, cannot fit all of it, and i dont like to be in minus on basically my only account, except for a few old visa electrons i havent used for years...

i go into overdraft sometimes, and thats the purpose, im not really bothered to open 10 of them and put it all into savings..

I'm sure I'm overlooking something obvious, but, why do you need another credit card when you have £1800 interest free lying around? Sure you "don't like to be minus" but you'll be losing money by paying the interest. Just seems a bit daft to me.

yes... I was missing something obvious... person with £1800 overdraft is not person applying for CC.

0/10. See me after class.

In any case, lying to get another credit card when you already have two is not a recommended course of action.

i agree, the only thing left here is if he needs to do a BT to not pay any interest, then another credit card is required, i am not recommending people to lie fyi.

burnsy said about overdrafts, i say credit cards give better deal, i.e just BT fee basically, unless you can get a 0% overdraft..

You can only have one student account, that your student load gets paid into, so that wouldn't work.

you can do it, they dont specify...

for example the 1st year and 2nd year i didnt get any loans, only on the 3rd year i got the full works. (i got my overdraft 2 weeks after i opened the account)

Nope, it's not me.

Yes, I see your point and I even agree that sometimes using BT on CCs is the most cost efficient method, but I would still look at alternatives before going the CC route.
