ok so ive got my computer up an running in the new case with the new cooler. problem is. when i adjust the speed on the V8 the fan speed doesnt change! helpppp please!

Do you have the V8 4-pin fan power connected onto the right motherboard connector? should be CPU_FAN

yep the 4 pin is connected to the CPU_FAN socket. which is whats confusing me. regardless of how much i adjust it the fan speed stays at 600RPM.

I know its a long shot but it only hurts more when it was sumthin daft and nobody bothered checking it cos they assumed it'd be fine (I work on an IT desk and have been stung this way before lol)...

Have u made sure that the fan controller has a little poke of metal going through the small hole on the PCI bracket (about 1mm in length), otherwise when you try and change fan speeds all your doing is twisting the entire mechanism and wires behind the PCI bracket and not actually adujsting the speed so the RPM would indeed fail to adjust.

(From memory) It should be setup from inside PC to outside...
Internal adjustment mechanism - PCI braket (secured by small bit of metal poking through hole) - washers - adjustment knob
(Will check this is correct when I get home at 1630 but it makes most sence that the washers are on the outside)

If the washers aint on correct then the bracket may come loose and again you will have the issue I described.

ive had a look and it is secured by two rubber washers with sticky ont he back of them to secure them to the PCI bracket. after ive finished backing up some of my stuff ill ope the case up and have a look again to see.

ok, well as long as the little metal tab on the control mechanism is pushed into the hole in the PCI bracket it should be secure and free from movement to the rear of the bracket. If thats the case then sumthing else is the problem.

ive just opened up my case and had a look. i moved the speed controller wire and it worked. as soon as i let go of the wire it stopped working again. so i presume its a faulty fan and needs returning?

Yeah it sounds like a loose wire or sumthing, i'd start an RMA with the supplier before looking at resolving anything like that yourself as you may VOID it.

yeh just emailed the retailer that i purchased it from so waiting for a rely from them. luckily even at 600RPM its keeping my comp below 40C :D
