Work PC had to do a System restore (Printers would vanish and this fixed it previously), upon starting up after the restore the screen would instead go to the ye old "Boot from safe mode, last good known config ect ect" except it wouldn't allow you to swap or press enter.

Then would jump to Windows Boot Manager, "Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt"

\Windows\System32\drivers\tcpip.sys

Any info would be much needed. There are very important documents on here (so need to avoid a format / reinstall at all costs), it's also not allowing me to boot from the disc (changed boot priority in the bios) I'm fresh out of idea's.

Personally, as it's a work machine, get your IT to backup/pull the docs from the disc and reimage/format and start again.

So there is no way round this?

Will need an IT to pull files off the HDD and then format it and start again?

If there is no other way you could always take the hdd out and connect it to another machine if there is one available.

It has one HDD is the problem not within the Windows files on the HDD?

I can't get on to Windows to shift the files :(

Linux Live CD or plug HDD into another machine as Pribnik has already said.

Your IT department should know all this.

oh no I meant that you could take the disk from the case altogether, thats what I do in situations like that. That is of course if you know how to do it. I couldn't come up with a better/ less intrusive solution for it. Note if the computer is still on warranty don't do it as it will most likely invalidate the warranty.

We don't have a IT department so to speak :p

I'm in helping fix a work based PC :) Managed to fix the problem with the other PC with bios reset. I'm just baffled by this.

Well your IT won't thank you if you try something that stuffs things up even more :p

They are the professionals within your business who are paid to sort this kind of thing, leave it to them.

If the docs are that critical then you want someone who knows what they are doing looking after it.

*edit* well as you posted the above at the same time, if you are their IT help slave the disk off to get a copy of the files then sort the machine. In this instance the files are your number 1 priority, not getting the machine booting, sort those out first then start playing.

Grab a copy of the tcpip.sys file from a working machine onto a usb stick
Boot the machine with a linux live cd, then copy the new tcpip.sys file over the old one and reboot.
If its not booting from a CD there are easy methods of creating a Ubuntu Live USB stick :)

I gave up, I didn't have the time to stay and swap drives out as I have to work myself.

I'll either try tonight if I'm not too tired.

My Dad said he'd just phone up the people that look after the IT and sort out the IT for them.
