help with ac/dc adapter please

hi

does it matter if the ac/dc adapter im buying is slightly different than my current broke laptop one.

old says DC Output: 19V 4.74A


new one i found says DC Output: 19V 3.42A

does the A have to be the same or would that be ok ?

It needs to be at least the same ampage or higher, otherwise it will struggle to charge the battery and run the laptop at the same time, and may just switch off randomly.

Yes voltage must be within +/- 1V (the closer the better) and the ampage (A) does need to be the same or higher.

You can get some nice quality universal adaptors that work with most laptops unless they are a dell.
