Hi all I have just put together my new computer and I am unsure on how to get it setup correctly. It seems to be running too hot and not performing in games the way it should. GTA was only getting 50 fps and was struggling at 1440p whereas my i7 920 was performing far better.

My specs are
i7700k cpu
Gigabyte aurus k5 motherboard
16 gb ram
Nvidia 980ti
Corsair h100i v2
Phanteks enthoo evolv

What I am really unsure on is how to setup the fans in bios. I have the h100i plugged into the cpu optional and the Phanteks Pwm fan controller plugged into cpu fan (this is where it says to go).
Has anyone got any idea on how to configure the settings so I get the best temps?

Thanks!

At idle the temps are in the 30s, around 32 to 33 degrees. This was checked with core temp. The max it has hit is 75 in core temp. The cooler is nice and snug and is on correctly it's just bios settings I think that are wrong. In the bios there are a lot of settings for cpu fan and cpu fan optional with regards to pwm or full power etc. It's all so confusing for me! This is my first build

All at stock. The Phanteks enthoo case has a power hub on the back and on the cable it says to plug into cpu fan but the corsair also wants to plug into that. Apparently it's ok to run the corsair on cpu fan optional, but if I were to do the opposite of the above, (power hub to cpu optional) would that mean the hub won't work correctly?

I will check the temps in game but I'm worried it's not reading the temps correctly. In the bios it says cpu temp 46 but I'm not sure where it's reading it from. I think my problem is just incorrect bios settings

I have set in bios the cpu optional fan speed control to full speed. It says the fan speed is 1448 rpm. The cpu optional fan control mode is on auto.

Everything is set to full speed and fan control mode on auto. It's a little louder than before but I'd rather it be noisy than the fans not kicking in at all

The cooler comes pre applied with thermal paste so I just followed the instructions and made sure it was secured properly. I've downloaded hw monitor. What would you like to know?

All of my cores are at 30 degrees. Under fans they say 0 % 0 but rpm. But they are spinning?

Correction the corsair h100 fan is at 1080 rpm and pump is at 2940 rpm. It's the case fans reporting at 0

I was playing gta with no issues the last time I tried, maybe turning the fans to max power has helped?

Max cpu v core is now saying the same. 1.416

All i changed in the bios was to set the fans to full speed for everything. Cpu fan, cpu optional, case fan all set to full speed

I will try that. The latest f4 bios says it has adjustments to v core voltage adjust. Maybe they released a new bios as this was an issue? I just need to figure out how to upgrade the bios now lol

I was just about to go into the bios to change the v core and I quickly checked hw monitor and my max cpu v core has gone down to 1.368v and then 5 seconds later its back at 1.416.:confused:

It won't let me change it.. I can't click anything on it I really appreciate you guys helping me like this. I feel like such an idiot..

It makes me wish I had just bought a pre built computer lol. It took me all day to put it together! My bios has q flash and I have downloaded the file and I am ready to put it on a formatted USB drive. To put it onto the usb drive do I drag the whole compressed file or just the flash.exe file?

I've updated the bios and the max cpu v core is now saying 1.296v. I still can't change anything, it must be a setting I need to change to let me access it. But all seems well so far!

I will leave that for another day. I am enjoying playing Bf1 and Gta 5 without any slow downs atm :D. My i7 920 was no slouch at 4 ghz, but this feels far snappier and generally faster at everything. Thanks so much for all your help, I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend :)
