Hi all I have just put together my new computer and I am unsure on how to get it setup correctly. It seems to be running too hot and not performing in games the way it should. GTA was only getting 50 fps and was struggling at 1440p whereas my i7 920 was performing far better.

My specs are
i7700k cpu
Gigabyte aurus k5 motherboard
16 gb ram
Nvidia 980ti
Corsair h100i v2
Phanteks enthoo evolv

What I am really unsure on is how to setup the fans in bios. I have the h100i plugged into the cpu optional and the Phanteks Pwm fan controller plugged into cpu fan (this is where it says to go).
Has anyone got any idea on how to configure the settings so I get the best temps?

Thanks!

What temps are you getting? Have you tried reseating the cooler making sure its on there nice and snugg? How about reapplying thermal paste?

At idle the temps are in the 30s, around 32 to 33 degrees. This was checked with core temp. The max it has hit is 75 in core temp. The cooler is nice and snug and is on correctly it's just bios settings I think that are wrong. In the bios there are a lot of settings for cpu fan and cpu fan optional with regards to pwm or full power etc. It's all so confusing for me! This is my first build

All at stock. The Phanteks enthoo case has a power hub on the back and on the cable it says to plug into cpu fan but the corsair also wants to plug into that. Apparently it's ok to run the corsair on cpu fan optional, but if I were to do the opposite of the above, (power hub to cpu optional) would that mean the hub won't work correctly?

Well the actual temperature seems OK to me.
You could use a more aggressive fan profile to run cooler, but it will make more noise.

Can you check with hw monitor that the CPU and gpu are hitting thier top speeds when gaming?

I will check the temps in game but I'm worried it's not reading the temps correctly. In the bios it says cpu temp 46 but I'm not sure where it's reading it from. I think my problem is just incorrect bios settings

I have set in bios the cpu optional fan speed control to full speed. It says the fan speed is 1448 rpm. The cpu optional fan control mode is on auto.

Everything is set to full speed and fan control mode on auto. It's a little louder than before but I'd rather it be noisy than the fans not kicking in at all

Yeh it's a little warm but not warm enough to cause performance issues.

Is there 2 issues here?

1.its a bit warm, did he use too much or too little thermal paste? Just asking as he said it's his first build.

2.fan noise /speed.. Hw monitor might help here to see if the fans are spinning up properly when gaming, and that the processor and graphics card goes up to full speed when gaming

The cooler comes pre applied with thermal paste so I just followed the instructions and made sure it was secured properly. I've downloaded hw monitor. What would you like to know?

All of my cores are at 30 degrees. Under fans they say 0 % 0 but rpm. But they are spinning?

Correction the corsair h100 fan is at 1080 rpm and pump is at 2940 rpm. It's the case fans reporting at 0

Bios temps are under almost no load so thats normal. Plus the software pulls the temps from the bios so that can't be it. I'm thinking its the thermal paste application. What method did you use and what paste?

I was playing gta with no issues the last time I tried, maybe turning the fans to max power has helped?

That's an extreme high max VID. That's not even your vcore. What is it saying for max CPU vcore it's listed at the top of HWmonitor under the motherboard section.

Did you manually enter voltages or something, there's no reason why your vcore should be so high at stock clocks. Above 1.4v is where it starts degrading cpu lifespan. Try reseting bios entirely.
