So, i just finished building my computer and, after it posts, i'm told: "Reboot and Select proper boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key".

When i do press a key, it just repeats that message again.

I've already set the Samsung SATA optical drive as the first boot device and, even with my Vista Home Premium DVD in there, still no luck.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

I've never delt with SATA optical drives myself...so i dont know if they just 'work' out of the box.

Sorry for the useless post, but i miss-read it initially and for some reason thought you were talking about a hard drive.

Thank you for the prompt reply. It's a new, clean hard drive.

I've set the SATA optical drive as the first boot device, with the hard drive set to second. When i try to boot from the optical drive with a Windows Vista disk in, i'm still told to insert boot media or select the correct boot device.

It's a sata drive though...So surely they dont have jumpers now? Or do they =/...Havent seen one before.

No, no jumpers. Maybe i could borrow an IDE drive from someone and see if that works. Changing the PIO and DMA modes, would this achieve anything?

Thank you for your help.

Heh, it's funny you should ask; it had dust and fluff on it when i got it out of the box, but it's clean now. I can change the type of SATA device the optical drive is from "Auto" to "Not Installed", "ARMD" or "CDROM"; i've tried it on "Auto" and "CDROM", but still no joy.

Any other suggestions?

That's what i was thinking, micky1up. I'll disconnect it all, use a different SATA cable and connect it to a different port on the motherboard. Is there anything in the BIOS (of the P5K Deluxe) i'm likely to need to change to get it to work. I mean, i tried an IDE drive and that worked fine.

Thanks again.

I've never been able to get my system to boot from the Sammy, luckily I've got a USB drive to install the OS and after that it works like a charm. I thought it might just be an issues with the nForce4 chipset, but I guess not. I wonder if there's an updated firmware for the drive.

I tried updating the firmware, too. It seems it came with the most up-to-date firmware anyway. So, instead, i tried an older one which didn't really do anything.

Any more suggestions? Is there anything to change in the BIOS?
