Wanting to build a new Skylake gaming build - was thinking of the below:

• Intel Core i5-6600K 3.9GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - Retail £224.99
• Asus Maximus VIII Hero Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard £169.99
• *£20 CASHBACK* Asus GeForce GTX 970 DirectCU II OC Strix 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £269.99
• Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive (MZ-75E250B/EU) £68.99
• NZXT H440 New 2015 Edition Case - Matte Black & Red £89.99
• Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C14 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit - Red (CMK16GX4M2A2400 £85.99
• SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 850W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £114.95
• Toshiba 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6GB/s 64MB Cache HDD - OEM (DT01ACA200) £53.99
Total: £1078.88 – (Without CPU cooler and case fans)

I’d like some thoughts and advice on the above and what other options I have.

I’m not sure what CPU cooler to go for which I’d like some help on… I’d like to overclock the CPU a bit to say, 4.4-4.5 (not overkill it)

I know there’s faster DDR4 ram out there but trying to keep costs down for now – probably going to wait for Black Friday/Cyber Monday for some deals though to see if I can get any savings on the above/similar or even better parts. Estimated budget is £1200 max but I’d prefer to be hitting nearer the £1k mark – I have Christmas presents to buy too!

Would really appreciate CPU cooler options and any opinions on the above parts? I'm wanting to go Skylake purely for some future-proofing (DDR4!)

Thanks!

This saves you a bit over your build. I assumed you were going for a Red/Black theme.

The Alpenfohn Matterhorn is a good cooler for the money.

Corsair RMx has a nice 7 year warranty. You can check out a review in the link:

MSI GTX 970 has the zero fan mode like the Asus, so the fans stay off under low load.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,041.60
(includes shipping: £14.70)

Cheers!

Appreciate the response, could you tell I was going for red n black? :) Haha. Good call on the mobo deal as well. I'm always drawn to Asus for some reason but for the money MSI's probably the way to go..

Nice spot on the 7 year warranty PSUs - I might go with the 850w version of the one you linked as I might end up with two 970s SLI'd after Christmas - will the 850w be enough?:

Corsair RM Series RM850X '80+ Gold' 850W Modular Power Supply - £104.99

That would take the build up to £1056.60 (incl postage)

Any other opinions on the build/CPU cooler options? And should I wait for Black Friday just in case other deals happen and change the build based on them or just order anyways! :D

Hi,

750w is enough for SLI GTX970s.

Nice spec RJC has done for you, wouldn't change it at all.

Cheers for clearing that up then stulid - so.... Now I just really want to press the purchase button :D

Really appreciate the responses guys - great community as always!
