Hi, After looking at the stickies about builds in the forum, I am still finding it difficult to pick parts based on my funds. I am looking to build a pc primarily for gaming. I have approx £850 budget. I already have SATA optical drives and hard drives(although if I have money left, I will get a new small one).

so, I would like some help in choosing the best parts that will fit my budget. I have no clue on these things. Obviously I realise I need a really good graphics card but thats all I know. This is what I chose, going by the build tutorial I found.

Can anyone recommend anything? Am I missing some good deals somewhere?

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 570 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £227.99
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM £155.99
1 x Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £139.98
1 x XFX Pro 750W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £79.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) £62.39
1 x Cooler Master CM-690 II Lite Dominator Case - Black £56.99
1 x Thermalright Silver Arrow CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA775/AM2/AM3) £47.99
Total : £786.31 (includes shipping : £12.50).

with some room left for cool stuff like case (Raven RV02W-EW, Corsair 650D...), SLI-ready PSU (850W modular preferably), or a SSD (30GB for Intel SRT with Z68 motherboard).

Memory wont make much impact on performance. Not a fan of the Cooler Master V series. I would prefer a Akasa Venom or Titan Fenrir.

What kind of performance or overclocking ability does the gfx card in my build have over yours? or vice-versa.
I see in the first build you have 750w PSU, and in the 2nd only 650w. Will I need that extra 100w?

Also, should I look at getting amd processor instead? It seems a lot cheaper and it is the same speed as the i5,

This is so damn confusing, how come the gtx570 has a core clock that is less than a 560??

Guys, one of my friends said I should be getting a B3 revision motherboard or something? Can somebody enlighten me?

Also, do I need to buy the thermal paste for the cpu cooler separately?

I think you'll find he is refering to the P series Intel mobos. You have been spec'd the Z series which is essentially better.

Heatsinks will come with enough for atleast one application. Tubes are really bought for better compounds (silver) to help keep temps down. Useful if you are overclocking, hope that answers your questions.

Hi again, I have already placed the order now for the build that I linked on my last reply. But now I think I may have jumped the gun! The graphics card that I got, I didn't realise it takes up 3 slots.
Will it be able to fit inside my case and not obstruct other things on the motherboard???

I also found out that the graphics card needs a 6-pin and 8-pin pci-E power connector, but that Coolermaster GX 750w power supply I got with the case says it only has 2 8-pin connectors. What am I going to do???

That's fine. 8 pin connectors are in fact 6+2. You can unclip the two extra pins to make 6. Just don't rip them away, just let them hanging by the side. Looking at a review, the GX 750W should have four 6+2 PCIE connectors. Not that it matters much :)

Three slot graphics cards can be a problem if they block PCI lanes and you want to use them, or if PCI express slots are close to each other and you want to have two graphics cards. With the AsRock Extreme 4, a 3 slot card (or two) won't be much of a problem.

They usually don't make much difference with respect to cases. At least not single cards.

What case and motherboard you have?
