Hey guys, I am in the process of selecting parts for my new build. I originally was going to get a barebones bundle, a graphics card and hard drive from another site however I was informed by a guy on the Virgin Forums that you guys could probably 'build' me a better PC if I gave you a budget.

I am looking to spend £350-450 and I already have a monitor, keyboard and mouse. This is meant to be a starter so I can upgrade it over the next few years as and when I need to, however I'd like something powerful enough to run high end games on reasonable graphics.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry mate, kinda wanted to link the products so people could see if it's any good as it is but don't worry then, I'm sure whatever you guys come up with would be better :)

Thanks for those! The only thing I noticed was that the processor is only dual 2.80GHz, I'm looking for something with a bit more power, my last plan was a six core 3.10GHz AMD processor, which I'm told isn't as powerful as the equivalent Intel but is still better than a dual 2.10 surely. I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Generally games don't make sure of much more than 2 cores. Also the cheapest 6 core is twice the price of that Pentium! AMD Bulldozer FX-6 Six Core 6100

For the budget, stulid knows the best to get :)

What about a quad core? I'd like it to be quite futureproof and able to cope with quite a bit, I'm not sure just dual 2.80 doesn't sound like it's going to perform really well for a while to come, for the sake of an extra £40 I'd rather have the added power, even if it's not needed! You guys know more than me though so if you're sure that it will be adequate and will be able to run various things (fraps+games) and other programs at the same time then I'll go with it.

[EDIT] I was thinking maybe this? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-314-AM&groupid=701&catid=1967&subcat=

As you don`t seem to have any components from an existing PC, it will be extremely hard to do any better than what Stulid has specced, on your budget. Unless you have some family members or friends who have any spare parts, they can donate.

What is the signature for? [edit your profile]
You may use a signature (commonly used in email messages) in your posts. You can specify in your profile a signature to use at the bottom of your posts. When you post, there is an option to use your signature. A signature may contain one or more images but they must fit within a box with maximum dimensions of 400 x 75 pixels (width x height) and with a maximum (combined) file size of 20k. Images containing mostly very large words or animated .gifs will not be permitted. You may also add 1 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text directly above or underneath the image with no spaces inbetween image and text. If no images are used then up to 4 consecutive lines of normal or smaller text is permitted. Do not pad out your text lines with blanks lines. A line of text is defined as having a maximum length of 400 pixels. If you want to turn the signature off in the future, you can come back and edit your post. If you have specified a signature in your profile, the box will be automatically ticked for you.

The forum Dons/Admins reserve the right to judge individual signatures, particularly those deemed to contain material of an adult or offensive nature. If the Dons/Admins think the signature is unsuitable for a family orientated forum, then it will be removed. If the user then replaces it without making changes, they will be suspended.

Is the Intel i5 quad core much better than the AMD one I linked? It's double the price so if the AMD one is still better than the original for only £15 then I'd rather go with that and the better graphics card.

Sorry about the sig, edited out the blank line!

I watched that video and read the comparisons that you linked, I think that for £15 I may as well get the quad AMD, which raises one more question - Will the motherboard in the £410 pack and the quad core AMD processor work together? I'm not sure how the whole cross brand compatibility thing works. Thanks again!

MSI HD 7850 OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £131.99

AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4100 Black Edition 3.60Ghz (Socket AM3+) Processor £71.99

Gigabyte 970A-DS3 AMD 970A (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £52.99

Toshiba (7K1000.D) 500GB SATA 6GB/s 32MB Cache - OEM (DT01ACA050) £43.99

Xigmatek Asgard II Windowed Midi Tower Case - Black/Silver £32.99

GeIL Black Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1600C11DC) £28.00

OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £13.99

Antec High Current Gamer 400W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £40.00

Final thing, is everything there and is it going to fit in the case and be powered by the power supply, cooled by the fans etc?
You've been really helpful, thanks a bunch!

Basket has been updated, I'll get saving! Is there a way I can +1 you or something to show my appreciation? If not then a very big thank you will have to do!

There is no rep system (just a trust system but thats only for MM deals)

So the thanks will be fine:)

Sorry if restarting an old thread is against the rules but I was considering getting a 1TB hard drive instead because I have loads of films currently, any suggestions?
