Hi everybody.

Basically i am a HUGE gamer, from med 2 to bf2. I run a x2 3800 , 7800gtx and 1.5gb of memory,

but heres the problem, my dual core is apparantly giving me a lot of hassle running med, i get about 10-16fps on large units.

So basically i want to sell my x2 and get another processor, so can anyone recommend another processor?

Also is it true that if a x2 has an disabled core that it doesnt run aswell as say a 64 3500 single core? if so, should i just go back to single core?

For BF2 as dual core dosn't really help as its a single threaded application. An X2 dosn't have a disabled core it has some disbaled cache (in your x2 3800 case it has 512k disabled) but this makes very little difference.

Upgrading to another AMD64 cpu will not make much difference tbh, only an upgrade to conroe will help but not that much, if any. For BF2, 2 GB of fast memory makes a MASSIVE difference. You may also want to disable some effects (such as shadows) which will give you a lot better fps.

thanks. if i was to downgrade to a 64 3500 or 3800 would that make a difference? Not the dual core ones.

Why would you downgrade lol?

Disable one of the cores with task manager, for the selected application.

Upgrade to a E6600.

single vs dual

Keep your X2, the improvement you would get from a 3700+ is so slight it's not worth it. Overclock your 3800+ (if you're not already).

Even a +15 FSB will give you better results.
