help with choosing memory

hi all just wondering if you can help me im just about to put my new system together but as of yet not bought any ram the motherboard I have is an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe this is my first intel build in about 8 years and the first time I will be buying ddr2. I will be overclocking but not sure to what degree yet but it will be on air (Tuniq Tower) the short list of memory I have is

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C4
800MHz RAM Speed, CAS 4-4-4-12 Timings, 1.9-2.3v

G.Skill 2GB DDR2 PK PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400
800MHz RAM Speed, CAS 4-4-4-12 Timings, 1.9-2.1v VDIMM,

CellShock 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit
800MHz RAM Speed, CAS 4-4-4-12 Timings, 2.1-2.2v

Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Tenth Anniversary
I have read all the posts on the 10th anniversary and sounds really good only problems I have is im a complete noob when it comes to overclocking and as its limited edition what happens in a years time when you want to put another 2 gig in to your machine

Thanks in advance for any help its just I want to be sure and try and get it right first time
 
I had the very same dilema, and no-one could give me a straight answer.

well to tell the truth no-one replied to the post at all :eek:

So I had to make my own mind up, this is what I decided....

I have an Asus P5WDG2-WS Pro mobo, tuniq tower, E6700 (incase you wondered -> still awaiting delivery)


1. Geil -> use Eplida chips, Asus and other boards prefer Micron chips, Micron D9 family are being heralded as awesome wafers and OC well, also people have had mnay problems with latest Giel batches

So I steered clear of Giel.

2. G.Skill -> none in stock so discounted them

3. Corsair -> seem ok but everyone has been raving over Cellshock & Crucial 10th Aniversary so decided against them.

4. Crucial 10th Ani -> Nearly went for these everyone is slating these as one of the best for OCing, seemed great value for money, BUT, they then put the price up £50.00, didn't seem so good after that!

5. Decided on the Cellshock (even though only 5yr warranty) , HOWEVER!!! -> went to order, they had sold out, d'oh.

Ok I hunted the web for alternatives and found that for £40.00 more than 10th Aniversary or less money than Cellshock PC8000 I could get Team PC6400 CAS 3-3-3-8, so went for them instead.

So ended up with the best CAS 6400 memory money could buy which are better than the Crucial 10th ani as they are 3-3-3-12 and for only another £40.00 :D

But if you want to get the best for less money on OCUK I personally would go for the Cellshock as they are back in stock ;)
 
i allways buy corsair msyelf never had a prob allways does what it sais in the tin. the one memory i wouldnt recomend is geil mainly becuase every day i swear trhre is a new thread about problems getting a system with geil in it running.
 
after all that I decided to go with 2Gb Team DDR2 PC2-6400 Xtreem Micron 4-4-4-10 for a delivered price of £175 so I am a very happy bunny

Wouldn't mind those myself at that price. Drop me a mail please if you don't mind divulging where you got them :D

I have a question, as im in the same boat, this is my first DDR2 build.... If i buy ram that is slotted for 2.1 - 2.4v will my system boot into bios to allow me to up the voltages? as i see some ram slated for 1.8-2.2 etc



So this leads me to believe the default memory voltate is around the 1.8 1.9 value...

I find Ocuk forums extemely valuable and would miss them like I would miss my eyes if anything was to stop the info flow. So above post needs to be adhered to.
