Help with Codecs

Right, I got a .avi file and i have divX on my PC and the file plays fine on the PC, but when I go to burn it, it displays 0mb and is only 5secs long (or so it displays) so i cant burn it.

Anyone know what codecs I require in order to burn it to DVD?
It's a massive family party from 2 yrs ago that someone has made for me and sent it me in .avi and it has my grandad and grandma on who passed away not too long ago so i REALLY wanna get this onto DVD for a xmas present for my mum as the mate who ripped it to .avi isnt responding to any of my calls.....please help with the codec i need.

easy avi dvd burner is your friend.

it will convert avi to dvd and burn it for you. unlike most avi to dvd converters it doesn't take 3 days to do it, i use it all the time, (what with torrents and that) it's very good.

My issue isn't burning it faster it's that it plays spot on on my PC but when i try and burn it, it doesnt recognise any codecs to burn the .avi file with....why???

what are you burning it with?

what ever the program is, it will need a codec to do it, easy avi has one built in so there is no issue.

I found it on a torrent website if your intrested.

I always use and love the CCCP code pack, so I'd recommend trying those.

I use ConvertXtoDVD and i've got a tool which tells you what codecs are in the file.

Any help on how to get this .avi file successfully burnt to DVD would be the best xmas pressie ever

Use Nero to transcode it to DVD-Video. It'll take a while but it'll work. Burn onto DVD-RW.

Im using Nero StartSmart 7 and there is no option to transcode, on record and it doesnt let me do an avi file

anyone else have any other ideas how to get this working?
like it said, works fine on pc, but wen i go to burn it, it comes up saying i need vodei player :s just to burn it yet 1) i already have it and 2) it works on my PC

It's in Nero Vision, you might not have it. Other than that, maybe the .avi is actually an XviD rather than a DivX codec - although DivX codec might be able to play XviD's now, not installed it for ages.

lol you've downloaded porn, don't try to lie you didn't! Vodei is only present on porn. Vodei is spam based codec, do not install vodei codec as it'll screw up your system!

:O Honestly I haven't my wife would kill me if I owned any...When I play it on my PC its a family party we had about 2 yrs ago, but a screen pops up saying i need to install the player. I will try to get hold of my mate and ask him why its asking for that player but like I said it's NOT porn, the wife would absolutely kill me if I owned any...

Then you must have downloaded porn and vodei codec, I believe installing the vodei codec makes all your avi files locked out, requiring vodei codec.

There is more than 1 person that uses this PC and I KNOW I haven't downloaded porn, as said, my wife would Kill me, she is totally against it lol.

a lot of .avi files that I have downloaded from torrent sites, especially from KLAXXON display this message now. I have been doing research and a lot of people have this issue with .aci files. I have installed Vodei from the main website, hoping this will work, which it doesnt. I have just uninstalled Vodei and now a lot of my files say it...Its reckin my head!!!

Didn't I just say DO NOT INSTALL THE CODEC! :rolleyes:

Time to do a fresh install, it's locked out your avi's...it'll leave codec in the system, and I hope you've got a backup of your AVI's (I believe makes them unplayable)

There's a way around vodei, but it requires copying hacked dll and using a muxer.

Then someone in your family has done already. You only need vodei for porn encoded with this spyware codec. I place my bet on the wife...the quiet ones and all that
