Help with error please..

I have a PC at the moment that dislpays the following message:

"The instruction at "0x2c91103c" referenced memeory at 0x1f1f1f1f1f - the memory location could not be written"

Does anyone know what this actually means?

I've ran memtest86 for an hour with no errors..

I can't seem to locate which application is failing but it appears to be either Norton works or IE7..

As far as i know, this error is produced because of a software error that's not likely to be XP or the hardware.

I'm thinking of taking off alll the applications, and reloading everything..

Any ideas?

Hmm Google or MS Support site return no results on this.

When does this error occur? In Windows?

Yes,

it's not happening regularly so it's a pain to test.

I know what you mean about the error not happening regularly. My brother's PC is playing up and we've some symptoms. However they don't occur that often and I'm wondering if they are just indicative of another, more serious problems. :rolleyes:

that's the one.. i can never seem to find it.

If memtest has run for an hour, it's pretty unlikely to be memory yeah?

Unlikely I'd say. How much RAM is it? If its more than one stick I think the general idea is to leave just one stick in there. Test that, which should take less time as there is less memory to test.

Assuming that stick passes the test, use the other stick/another stick until you've tested them all.

Cheers Marc,

It appears to have been caused by a virus. I found this out by uninstalling Norton, then installing Avast which found a virus. Removed the offending virus and re-installed IE7.. and all worked fine.

And lol at having to remove Norton to find a virus. :rolleyes:

Norton is so not worth the effort eh!
