Help with extrernal drive

Help with external drive

Today I had come through an external icy box caddy and a western digital 200 gig hd ata.

I also have in the pc one sata drive and one ide drive.

So I connect the caddy up with the drive jumper left to cable select it recongnises the drive and says its ready to use. When I goto my computer the device isnt there. When I go to disk management the disk isnt there.

When I go to device manager the disk is there but I cannot do anything with it, it says the device is functioning.

I also tried the jumper on slave, same result. I also tried connecting it to my laptop, same scenario.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Ive tried a mates external drive before and havent had issues. It just auto detected and away I went.

BTW using windows XP

Right now I slaved the new hd in my rig swapping out the slave ata drive in their. It auto detected and ive given it a drive number on disc management , its formatting.

Maybe now it will auto detect in the caddy.
