Just wondering if you could cast your eyes over this i7 920 build. This is my first build and will be looking for an overclock of 3,8ghz, 4ghz if i'm feeling brave!:D

I know that an overclocked i5 750 system would be ok for me but I dont mind spending a little bit more for the i7 920 in terms of "future proofing" it a little wrt the Gulftown processors.

I already have a EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 graphics card. (Will be looking to upgrade in Q2 2010 maybe)

Budget is roughly £800 but can push it further for good suggestions. (This lot comes to £790.73)

thanks guys in advance

Sorry to say mate but the memory you have chosen, Ocuk have took it off there shelf for some odd reason. Cracking memory they where. Send a webnote and see when they will put them back on Ocuk. If they don't have it in, I reccomend this memory http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-129-OC&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1389
Or even the Kingstone memory at £101 but non instock.

Apart from that mate, everything is bang on. Looks like a stable gaming machine there fella ;)

I would recommend changing the PSU to a Corsair 650W and I'm sure many would agree. A few quid more, but Corsairs are said to be the best PSUs in the world, and they are very efficient so eventually pay themselves off completely in energy costs versus the OCZ - which has been proved as a bit dodgy once or twice.

for an upgrade for the GPU get another 260 for £125 and get a huge boost in performance!

ive seen many a corsair go pop, they are nowhere near the best psu in the world and there cables suck.

Thanks for the help guys,

OCZ gold looks good, will go for that.
(thats weird how the Patriot memory has gone, I only put it in the basket round 45mins ago??)

Read good stuff about the Corsairs but the HX750w was is £119.99. Didnt think that the £43 difference was justified? or is it?

Would a 650w PSU be ok if i'm thinking of SLI (or Xfire later on) + overclocking or just pay a bit extra an go for the 750w?

I would pay the extra for the 750w. Say you wanted the ati 5850 and want to crossfire them, the punch out 550w at load, then you got to think about ur cpu ocing etc.

I suggest going for the Corsair HX 750W for a number of reasons:

First, it is an excellent power supply, with solid rails and low heat/noise.

Second, it has a 7 year warranty. So in theory, you should be set for PSUs for the next 7 years.

Third, efficiency. The 750W is made by CWT (unlike the 650W) and has a very high efficiency. Power supplier also usually provide maximum efficiency at around 50% load, which would suit your system perfectly - and help to cut power bills down.

Fourth - it looks awesome, and the modular cables are fantastic.

Here is a good review.

Let me explicitly state - you certainly don't need a PSU this powerful or fancy, but there are definite benefits for going with it.

But I would rather buy the £26 to have like 4 years more warrenty.

and if it goes wrong 3 times (and theres a chance it could) or they deny the rma once then you could have bought a new psu
im a massive corsair fan i honestly am i have there 800d case there h50 cpu cooler and 12gb of there ram in this pc alone however there psu's are not this holy grail a lot of people seem to think they are around here. they are not worth the extra money over the ocz psu

Hmm...confused now. The reviews of the Corsair HX 750w are indeed very good and lots of people are recommending it, but still unsure if £43 is worth it and if I have to RMA just once it comes to ~£70, and thats only just a few quid short of the OCZ ModXStream 700W PSU.

Need to do some more thinking.

Right guys, so after much thinking this is what i've come up with....

I decided on the the Corsair HX750w PSU, I know its more that what I need but I'd like to have some scope to upgrade to dual GPUs down the line.

Graphics card is EVGA GTX 260 SSC.

thanks guys.

Corsairs aren't the best in the world. Good PSU's, though.

I'd recommend the HX series over the TX series. They're manufactured by Seasonic.
