help with friends router setup

hi all, a m8 has just rung and is having problems with belkin wireless router.

hes set up his main pc and can get on to the net ok (msn wont start up though, any ideas but thats least of his problems)

hes set up his laptop too BUT.......it says its linked to his router with excellent strength but he cant get on the net at all.

if he connects the router upto his laptop instead of his main pc, he gets on


windows firewall, norton av

any ideas much appreciated

So if it's connected wirelessly it connects but "doesn't work", but if it's connected with a cable it works?
Once again, more detail needed. For starters:

• What ISP is it?
• Output from ipconfig /all when the laptop does and doesn't connect
• Any security enabled?
  • If yes, is it any better with the security disabled?
  • Are you sure the security key (PSK, WEP key, whatever) is correct?

BELKIN wireless G+ MIMO Modem Router
ISP is virgin
Windows firewall and Norton Anti. Makes no difference with firewall off
laptop will connect off a broadband modem or thro the belkin on an ethernet connection but once wireless it will not find a server
