Help with GA-x38-ds4!!! please please please

Thnx, i feel i might be RMA the cpu next week!! just glad i got something workin!! Am currently updating bios on me DS3 and seeing if the q6600 works in that!! MAN there aren't enough hours in the day!!

Try this in the setup that kept rebooting:

Either try only one stick of ram in any slot, with all the timings of it on 'auto'. If that works fine, then put in another but make sure its NOT dual channel e.g. in slots 1 & 2 right next to each other.

If this works, i reckon its the DS4 being weird with the ram that you are using currently. I had the exact same problem and the above fixed it, albeit without dual channel capability....

HAHAHA, hey guys wanna hear something really funny!!! I put the E6300 in my old rig again about two days ago. So i got up this am to see if my Q6600 would go into my old rig( it should have just needed to update bios!) So went to turn it on this morn and guess what , it is in that damn reboot cycle, you know the one that resets your mobo after every three seconds or so!! I wouldnt of minded if i had actually flashed the bios or anything!! but i hadnt touched any setting the only thing i did the night before was d/l the bios to install!!. It justs reboots all the time, no post no nothing!! LOL could things get any worse!!

I got that reboot loop if I didn't set my memory up correct in my DQ6. I would then reset CMOS and setup with one stick. In fact, I've had this with all 4 P35/X38 boards I have owned. I imagine it's the bootstrap.

My X38-DQ6 died today in the middle of critical work, the memory controller went nuts, memory usage jumped from 5gbish to 8gb, PC slowed down and everything froze. It would then hang on post at the memory size line with any memory, other CPUs I have, CMOS reset etc. It did get past POST one time but memory errors all over the shop yet the RAM passed okay on one of my other machines. The 8gb strain probably killed the MCH, even though it was always cool.

Went out and got a Maximus Formula (local place had no X48s and had no time to wait as I had a lot of work to do) and all is fine now. Didn't need to reinstall Windows, just plugged 'n' played!
