Recently the RAID 0 array consisting of 2 Samsung F3 320 Gb failed due to one of the disks packing up.

Last night I took the broken one out intending to use the good one on its own. So I changed the BIOS to AHCI and booted off the Vista CD. However when it got to the choose the disk screen it could not see the disk. I changed the BIOS to IDE but got the same result.

So I then used the caddy I have to attached the disk to a laptop and did a quick format. However I can still not see it in the vista install.

Am I missing a special step that I need to do as it was part of a RAID 0 array or is this disk faulty as well? The RAID control panel was only indicating that one had an issue.

This is in my other machine which is based on a Q9450 and an Asus P5Q Deluxe.

Yes I am using the first two normal ports on the Intel Controller rather than the dedicated RAID ones.

Yes. It shows in the BIOS when AHCI and IDE are selected.

I have also tried a different SATA cable in a differnt SATA Port.

UPDATE

Thanks for the info Zarf that was the solution. But I would have thought that the marker or whatever would have been cleared when I did the quick format when I had it attached to my laptop via a usb cable.
