As said above, the battery only needs replaced if you need it to last as long as it used to. All battery's longevity falls off over time, and will continue to do so until it only gives you a few minutes. Does HP warn you once it has lost 20% or more capacity? I am not sure of the exact number but say your 57W 3 cell battery started off under optimum conditions giving you 8 hours of life, and now it only gives you 6 hours, is that the end of the world? If it's only giving you half an hour, maybe more of a concern, but may not be an issue if always plugged in. There are more useful battery life reporting tools in linux if you can be bothered - just boot from usb with a temp installation and use the upower command. Google the syntax, but start with upower -e
With certain sites, the refund process is easier than others if you find a 'compatible' battery less than acceptable. Saying that I've used replacement Lenovo, Dell and HP compatibles from the rainforest and the bay and they've been fine 4 times out of 5.
