Got myself a D0 to jump on the bandwagon, but im having a bit of a problem getting it to 4ghz stable. The best I can do is 3.8 but its only prime stable for about 13 mins. The system itself seems pretty stable though. Can run games etc and its fine.

Spec is in my sig

heres a screenshot to show my current overclock:

Things to note:
vcore is 1.2375v, tried up to 1.35, with the same result as above.
QPI is 1.520v. I've read that this helps with processors that have fussy memory controllers, but doesn't seem to make my system stable. At least not prime stable.

What else can I try, to help stabilize my system?

Cheers.

ok i'll try that.

Also, i've read that a 20x multiplier can cause stability problems and that some people get better stability from using 19x. is this true?

What motherboard are you using?

I found using 21x multiplier was the most stable for my system. 19x forces a high FSB which my RAM didn't like. Run you RAM at its rated timings and put memory voltage to 1.64V. QPI voltage is way to high.

motherboard is in my sig. EX58-UD5

Prime is running now, at 4ghz. Dropped QPI to 1.3, and set my memory to rated speed and latency. I'll see how it goes.

Edit: actually looks promising so far. Nearly 10 mins with no errors. Not a lot to write home about lol, but considering before this, the longest it lasted, was about 30 seconds, before it produced errors.

Ah yeah, don't know how I missed that?!

Just keep an eye on temps as its priming away.

temps are just about acceptable, getting up to low 80's

Also, cores 0 and 1, are always about 5 degrees hotter than 2 and 3. I think the CPU could benefit from a bit of lapping. Maybe another day tho

Have the same with my i7 920 DO, fitted a year ago now and core #0 is consistently 6 degC warmer than #4. Will reseat the Fenrir one of these days.

Increase the IOH Core to about 1.25V

What memory are you running and which memory multiplier are you using? As the memory clock frequency goes up you'll need more QPI/VTT voltage to keep stability. Personally I set multiplier to 8 and tighten the timings as it gets better performance than high memory clocks with the multiplier set to 10. Remember to set the memory timings manually.

ive tried with all sorts of different voltages, nothing seems to work. I am starting to believe my memory may be faulty. later on im going to reset bios to defaults, and run memtest to check if its faulty or not.

What's the unclck? Tends to get forgotten, but should stay below 3500, just as QPI should stay below 7500. You hear about people who've managed to get both higher, but it's rare.

strange, it seems like its stable when my memory is at 1200mhz, but if run it at the rated 1600mhz, prime errors after a couple of mins.....

Cool. Memtest past with no errors. So I know my memory isn't faulty.

Current settings:
19x multiplier
bclk: 200
QPI: 7.1ghz
unclck: 3400mhz
memory: 10 (1600)
vcore 1.2750
dram: 1.64

Prime has now been running for almost half an hour with no errors, so this looks promising. Will update if anything goes wrong.
