Hi Guys

I have moved into a new rented house and have a new boiler to work out. There aren't any manuals but I want to see if I can understand how to ignite it before calling the agency / a gas engineer. It's a Potterton Prima F30, with a picture below.

I think I just need to make sure the electrical supply to the boiler is on, then have the big dial set to 0, and then try pressing in the ignition switch which I believe is in the round hole on the underside.

The problem is, when I try pressing in what I believe is the ignition switch, you can't sense any movement in the switch, and there's no noise as if something was trying to ignite. I know the gas is on to the property as the cooker works.

Does anyone know how this procedure should work? I may just leave it to an expert to show me, but I'd be interested to know.

Thanks

Ask google?

http://www.a2zboilermanuals.com/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=55&limitstart=150

will that help?

Think you may need to take that bottom grey cover off ( i just seen on another forum that the button you think is the ignition switch could just be a overheat reset button). A lot of boilers these days don't have a pilot light as they are ignited with a spark.

Is there a switch on the wall feeding the electricity to the boiler.

This is all guessing but if it was me i would check the power to the boiler and remove the grey cover to see if there is any info on the inside of the cover as my boiler has simple instructions on a sticker inside the cover.

I had exactly the same boiler until recently, it ignites itself once the pump starts running (which is controlled by the timer). I had a problem when it wasn't igniting due to a small tank in the loft where the ball valve had seized and the lack of water meant some kind of safety feature kicked in I guess because the pump wasn't running. The button underneath reset this if I recall (after the ball valve was fixed) but it was a few years ago.

Wow, so much misinformation in this thread.

Turn the dial to anything ABOVE 0, higher is hotter. The button underneath does not need to be used at all unless the boiler overheats (so hopefully never by yourself). The timer will need to be set to on, then the boiler does the rest all by itself. You don't need to light any pilot etc, it's all electronic. Make sure the room thermostat is also turned up to something sensible (like 20 degrees).

Any other questions just ask.
