Help with IIS7

Hi - why can't I see Web Service Extensions in IIS7 - I've enabled .Net 3.5.1 and installed .Net 4.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

If you want to change which version of .NET a website runs under, then go to its application pool, right-click, properties and select it in there.

.NET 3.5.1 will appear as .NET v2.

Thanks for replying so soon on a Sunday - I'm on a client site in Israel!
When I expand the server name in IIS, all I see is Application Pools and Sites. I was hoping to see Web Service Extensions and Default SMTP Virtual Server.

If I click on Application Pools, the main window displays the following:
ASP .NET v4.0
ASP .NET v4.0 Classic
Classic.NET AppPool
DefaultAppPool

The client has installed IIS and the .Net platform before I arrived. Any ideas how I can get those additional features to show? Thanks.

i must confess i don't know anything much about IIS7 configuration but i guess if you're running windows server, use the "add roles" wizard from server manager to check what components are installed.

if it's a windows desktop machine, use the "turn windows features on or off". just type that into search and it will find it.

If installed, the default SMTP virtual server can be found by clicking Start --> Run --> "inetmgr6" --> OK. Microsoft did not upgrade the SMTP service from IIS6. If you can't get to it, then you will need to install it as a role feature.

In IIS7, click the site you want to change and click "Basic Settings" in the top right-hand corner. In the window that pops up, you'll see the name of the application pool. Then go to the application pool window, and change the .NET version from there.

There is no Web Service Extensions option like in IIS6.

Hi thewanted - yeah cracked it in the end. I had set the .Net 4 components to Allowed in IIS but didn't realise the tree structure in IIS7 was different.

One last thing. I've added the SMTP feature using server manager but it's not showing up in IIS. Something else I'm not reading right?

No problem. I do a lot of troubleshooting in IIS at work.

Did you follow my advice above? Is the SMTP service started?
