Help with Illustrator

Anyone know how I can make Illustrator in CS6 run smoother? I understand that it uses the CPU for everything, but I'm running it from the SSD including files and scratch disk but still experiencing lag. I'm running 16GB Ram, Vertex II and M4 SSD's with 4.4GHZ overclocked CPU.
Any suggestions would be great.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't some Adobe software use OpenCL now? What GPU are you using OP?

Yeah it does, the option to switch openGL in Photoshop is in the preferences, but in Illustrator its not there. I'm running a Radeon 6970.
