Help with installing a PSU, please

You're right, I'm not overly familiar with this kind of hardware. What exactly is a power supply tester, and where can I get one from? Even better, actually, is there a piece of kit that would also enable me to test other components, such as my motherboard?

Because it doesnt (for me anyhow), I can connect both the Power and Reset anyway on any PC/Mobo/Case Ive has from 2001 till now.

Only the Speaker (where fitted) HDD LED matter.

You can even jump them with a Screwdriver if out the case so please tell me Polarity matters then. :)

At the end of the day m8, I aint the one thats been trying for 24 hours to start a PC :p

Why do you say that?

My computer didn't power up at all when I made it - and it was totally because of the 2-pin front panel connecter the wrong way round.

I moved it round; it then worked.

That's weird as the POWER_SW connection just normally gets shorted when you press the switch on the case so shouldn't really matter.

To the OP are you sure the 24 pin ATX connector is firmly in and that none of the pins on the connector have been pushed up when you plugged it in? Also is the HSF fan connected to the CPU_SYS connector on the mobo?

Well it happened with me. So I can't be the only one that it can happen to.

It could've been the case with his too.

Vortex, you can start a computer with using a screwdriver to bridge the 2 pins. No need for a switch at all.

Maybe you got the wrong 2 pins first time, and then swapped to the correct pins as you turned the plug around?

I realise that this is a dead thread, but I thought that I should update people on what had happened, in case it helps out anyone else.

The PSU had fried my motherboard, and I had to get virtually a whole new computer.

It seems that 4-pin connector next to the main power connector had popped out. This meant that that 4-pin point on the motherboard was live, but with nowhere to go. It seems to be a design flaw with the PSU, where the 4-pin connector doesn't clip or secure properly.

And to think, OC wouldn't even give me my money back for it. Ah well.

I'd be surprised if it would not clip on properly- are you sure you secured it correctly? These clips are often a nightmare to unclip (or at least i've found often).

No, the clip was actually loose to begin with. I noticed it straight away. With hindsight, I should have sent it back straight away without even trying to install it.
