Hey guys,

Just a bit of advice really, just about sorted out all the parts im going to be using in a new build however im a little stuck on the memory. this is whats going to be inside

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - OEM
Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Also hoping to get a GT card as soon as they arrive.

Now I was going to purchase 2 lots of:
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC)

However this is no longer in the "this week only deal" (luckily the cpu and MB are now :) ) however i was looking at the new stuff on there. now would this be better ?

OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2 (OCZ2G8004GK)

or shall I just stick with the GeIL or is there a better alternative. i liked the price of the GeIL stuff which is what attracted me to it and im hoping to get 4gig.

Any recommendations will be very welcome.

Thanks

The OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2 (OCZ2G8004GK) should do fine.

Tho if you want to save £15 you could always buy two pairs of the OCZ 2x1gb PC6400.

I looked into buying that board however the reviews i read did not show any performance benifits (of significance) over the P35 pro. ok it supports ddr2 1200 but im not going to be buying that. yes it has PCIe-2 but again ive not seen anything that would warrent the extra money.

Well another thing that might be worth it in the future, is full 2 x 16 crossfire support. For me, it would be an absolute no-brainer to get this board (or a similar X38) for £27 more, for all the extras over the P35 chipset. But hey, I appreciate everyone sees things differently.

Oh yeh, another thing that put me off the P35 chipset is the double booting issue...can't be doing with that!

Sider, I am looking at exactly the same setup.
After nearly a month of research, i've settled on the IP35 Pro board, and the Q6600.
The Ram choice is still confusing me a bit though.

Do I get 4X 1GB sticks? Or 2X 2GB Sticks?

yup, im not too bothered as my pc tends to stay on 24/7. its a great board, has great reviews nothing is perfect im afraid.
