i have a mate with an old e machines computer..

its runs 256mb of ram i one slot with a few second slot..

can i install a 1gb stick of ram in the second slot as well as the 256mb thats in there on do i need to remove the 256mb as they won't be matched..

until he buys another stick of 1gb ram...in a couple of months maybe..

thanks..

Yes, that is fine providing the RAM you are installing is the same type (not capacity). However, having different capicities will mean the on dual channel system this feature will be disabled. That said, 1.25 gb is better than the 256MB and will be noticable in terms of performance matched or not..
