Help with mini network?

Ok, so im wanting to set up my first mini network type thing. My question is that using the below setup, will i get gigabit transfer speeds between desktop1 and microserver? Or does the traffic have to be sent through the router in some convoluted way?

Please excuse the diagram drawn in excel, i couldn't think of a was to easily describe it, and this seemed simple enough.

You will get gigabit speeds between desktop1 and the microserver. However, your actual speed will be dependent upon your hard drives' speed, if you have gigabit NICs (network interface cards) and other underlying factors (which I'm struggling to think of, at this current moment in time :p). Also, CAT6 to the gigabit switch won't be much of an improvement, you may as well use CAT5E for the whole thing, or you could use CAT6A so you're 'future proofed', but I can't see any point in doing so at the moment.

Yeah i understand that the end speed will depend on the NICs and hard drive speeds, but i just wanted to make sure i had gigabit speeds going on in there.

On a diffrent note, what powerline network adapters would you recomend? They will only be used to transfer the internet connection so speed is not an issue. Preferably on the low end of the price range?
 
The TP-Link adapters that are in the "This Week Only" offers should be okay.

Personally I still like the Devolo adapters but they'd be a bit more expensive.
