Hey guys, I'm looking to get a new monitor soon, around 17", what resolution and other stuff should I be looking at when going to get it?

Cheers. :)

Is your desk so small that it will only fit a 17"? They don't make a lot of monitors with that size anymore, 21.5" is the smallest popular size nowadays.

17" is pretty much only 1280x1024.. old school 4:3 aspect ratio(nearly square - not widescreen).
If you're after these outdated specs but want a modern monitor then I suggest the BenQ G702AD.
If you're willing/able to move a step up then I would really suggest looking at the BenQ G2222HDL which has a Full HD resolution and is 21.5". Fits your budget with the current weekly deal.

Yeah I've had a lot of problems with my measurements, (credits goes to my brother). I just did them myself and on my desk I have the current height:
17" or 43.18cm or 431.9mm

The deminisions for the 21.5" that you reccomended (which looks very nice) has:
Dimensions: 504.6mm x 392.9mm x 175.0mm, is that ( w x b x h ) do you know or?

The resolution is the same from what I can see, the screen size of the cheaper one is only .4 of an " smaller, the smaller one says it has multimedia speakers, I don't think the dearer one does? Hmm they both look very nice :)

Actually they are more than likely identical in size:

BenQ:
BenQ G2222HDL 21.5"

OCUK:
Screen Size: 21.6" Widescreen

Personally, I'd get the cheaper one for more warranty. All the specs are the same. The only reason for the BenQ is if you like the look of it enough to spend £20 more on it!

just saw this in the comments below it, does this mean that it doesn't have a HDMI slot?

"worked straight out the box, clear instructions etc, nice clarity, just as good as £120+ monitors...only draw back is perhaps the lack of HDMI connectivity, also for those wondering it is an
AOC 21.5" monitor "

Go for it! It has DVI and VGA:
1x Analogue & 1x DVI-D

Do you not have a DVI cable? One *might* come with the screen. I'd be surprised if it didn't, but then it is cheap.
Manual wasn't helpful, said the cables included vary with region. Maybe give OCUK a call tomorrow to ask? If its come with a DVI cable, then I'd use that.

I have a DVI cable but I'm using it atm for my current monitor, so tell me exactly what my basket should look like if possible :). Also do I need to get any extra adaptors to run the two montiors at the same time on my computer?
