Hi peeps, this is my first post so i'd like to do a quick into i'm chris and ive always been into building and playing about with pc's, However ive never had the funds to do it properley ive always bought second hand parts and furthest ive gone is 1 graphics card on a core 2 duo ... pants i know...

Now, my finances have changed in the best way it can... ive got some cash to play around with on an epic build ! sooooo exited to start it !

I need some advice on parts for my build, im going to be using it for gaming, general use and application creation for iphones etc, I know i dont need a stupidly fast pc for those needs but for pure personal satisfaction and to say i actually built an epic powerhouse i would like to go all the way..

I've been thinking about this mobo Asus Rampage IV Extreme as it will take a decent amount of ram and supports the 6 core 2011 socket i7's, will this board be good enough if i go for 3 way sli nvidea with 24gb's ddr3 ram ?

I also intend to watercool all my system... graphics, cpu, ram etc i know ram is pointless money waisting but like i say id like to just do it purely because ive always wanted a modded pc and now ive got the chance to go all the way with it...

Any advice, critisism will be appreciated !!!

Thanks guys !!!:D

You need to give the master builders a budget to work with and list what parts you may already have to use, like dvd roms and hard drives and wether they are ide or sata :)

You might want to think twice about spending what sounds like a lot just on a computer if you are normally a bit short on cash, are you sure there aren't some other things in your life that could do with some monatary loving?

See I bet you could probably spend only half of what you are thinking on a decent computer that you will be waaaay happy with... and there is all that new tecnology just around the corner toooo.

Well budget wise i dont really have a budget, as for other things in life thats why i couldnt afford one before, ive now got a tech'd out place with a nice car, ahead on any finances by at least 3 months worth and have some cash to play around with hence why i may as well go all the way now as i may never be able to afford such a spend on pc parts again lol

I already have a core 2 duo pc BUT the condition of me spending out on my pc was that the miss's could give this one to her sister lol so im even aloud to by the miss's ... omg she's awsome lol !!!

Thanks for the imput tho chap !

Oh well, in that case, well done you! about time you had a proper treat! Seriously!

:)

You really do need a budget for the most excellent builders to work with tho', unless you simply want the best of the best? But we are talking ooodles of squids, sure you want a 5 grand + rig?

Start with a budget, and see what they come up with, if you dont like it, up the budget and send them to work again! They love it! :D

Edit: The tough part comes with value for money, as, many products are at their end of the line, with new tech around the corner you wont be getting a good bang for buck ratio... You might want to look into spending bigger on some things and less on others with a view to upgrading them in the near future if you catch my drift?

Thanks for the advice, thinking about it thats a good idea but weather or not my miss's will let me spend more in a few months when new tech comes out is another matter... she will see it as ive already built my pc and it works why upgrade again lol... so not sure wether i should do it now or later but ill see how the techy's on here do with the build specs.

Ok so as far as a budget goes lets say 2k to start with, i have aroung 6k spare atm so could go all out but this is the only time im ever going to see that kinda money so wanna get a decent rig out of it so hope you guys can help and ill get a sweet rig that you guys have all help to build !

Also i will upload vids to my youtube and piccys on here as to my progress so you can all give your advice on my build !

Considering u want to watercool the whole rig i think u be hard pushed at 2k my rig cost me about 2.8 k thats just the tower and i wont be upgradeing for at least 3 years so i say

I7 sb-e is a waste of money just go for the 2700k and save your self some money that can go on the watercooling side of things

If u going to water cool firstly u need a desent sized case to fit it all in the case i went for not the prettyest but great for watercooling and its huge also it will fit a 3x140mm rad and a 140mm rad

Temps for my setup cpu 35c idle 72c under prime95 & Gpu's 32C idle and 51C full load
Ek i have found to make the best waterblocks for cpu and gpu easy to fit with clear instructions

Pretty pointless watercooling the motherboards of the z68 boards as they run pretty cool
A beefy power supply is a must at least 850w if going sli 1200w if going tri

Storage wise i went ssd for operating system and general programes. Raid o 2 x western digital blacks for games and steam files. A western digital green for important data, films and music all in an icydock to save room 3 drives 2 bays

When the ssds came out i thought cant make that much of a difference i was so wrong 10 second boot up only gripe prices vs capacity need to drop

16gb memory more than enough

Graphics cards thats up to u plenty of benchmarks around so u can make up your mind

Most import thou if you going for an epic build get a monster of a monitor 27 inch min its the one thing u will never regret buying

Cheers Hlennie, Been doing a tad bit of thinking and decided its best to go with like you say the 2600k as most of the benchmarks depend what setup you have mix of componants etc by the looks of things so i could probs acheive a fast and epic build just choosing my parts carefully.

Nice setup tho bud have you got some piccys ? inside etc ? wouldnt mind a quick butchers lol

Graphics cards wise.. i want something that will play games like mw3 and battlefield on high with results that would make u sit back and say wow thats epic quality.. so need advice on that really as ive used a selection of cards in the past but nothing special enough to run stuff on ultra lol

27" monitor is defo a must, ive usually gone for 23" ish monitors and not the best for gaming etc !

May sound stupid of me as ive built pc's before but ive never set up anything in 0 raid... what does that mean ? does the pc see two drives as one and store half n half so when accesing it can read twice as fast ?

case wise ive found the same problem.. the better looking cases dont have enough room for watercooling altho i find on ebay etc some people have wedged stupid setups in a tiny case ... whats up with that lol must be a nightmare to work on ...

Cheers

U thinking of building over the christmas period?

I will post some pics on the weekend showing where i have installed components once my new mayhems coolant comes this will give u an idea what can be done

in the meantime check out some of the project builds might give u some ideas on kit

Most my set up can be brought off oc's

Side note the new ek highflow cpu blocks come with some mx4 well done ek

Gtx 570's in sli would be great for any game mine where great until one decided to go up in smoke so i did the evga step up to 580's as it would only cost 100 more. gaming wise every thing is cranked up to the max @ 2560 x 1400

Raid 0 uses 2 or more identical sized drives to make a raid array information can then be written and read at the same time. in windows u only see one drive but with their combined storage space

Hear u about the cases but u know what function over looks i could have gone for a better looking case like tj11 or a mountain mods but heck im never paying that sort of money when a 150 case can do what i need

Was thinking of gradually getting the parts through and after xmas due to new year sales etc may be a gd place to get some bargains lol.

Yea will be good to see some piccys of your rig.

Yea i spotted a beautifull case i really wanted but read up on google and a chap wrote a review about a problem fitting graphics cards in if they are long ones etc due to the bay positions .... its a little thing like that puts you off as all ya want in a pc case is room to breath and a decent amout of space for future upgrades !

new graphics cards are just around the corner, ati/amd cards were rumoured to be announced this week tho I've not read anything thus far. but not too long now.

ivybridge CPUs in march/April if you can wait that long seeing as you say you wouldn't be able to upgrade anytime soon so may as well wait for all new tech to be released(if you can wait that is :) )

Were is the best place to get all this info, everyone is saying things are being released but i never know where to look this is the first ive heard of the new ivybridge release lol

And for a good build i can definatley wait !!
