Help with my new build

I'm in the market for a new PC at the moment and I'm fairly clueless about what's good at the moment. I'm still using the Core 2 Quad Q6600 that I got in 2008 and, other than a RAM increase and some extra HD space, it's still the same spec as when I bought it!

I'm a software developer and want something that I can use for that as well as other general use.
I want large amounts of RAM so I can run local databases and spin up multiple VMs and not have to think too much about it.
I figured I'd go for a reasonably high end CPU too and a graphics card that should do me for a while.
I'm not a massive gamer, but do a bit occasionally and want a graphics card that will support that, as well as being able to try out some GPGPU programming with it.

As is probably evidenced by my current PC being nearly 6 years old I'm not planning on swapping things about in 6 months time so I'm looking for something with a bit of longevity.

I've 4TB of hard disks and a DVD drive in my current PC that will be re-purposed for use in the new one so no additional drives needed there. I've already got an SSD too, but want a second so I can dual boot Windows 7 and 8 on separate drives as I do some stuff that needs Win 7 still.

Anyway, my spec list is below, and some critique on things would be good.
Am I along the right lines with CPU, motherboard and graphics?

One thing that's missing from the list is a CPU cooler.
Any good recommendations about something suitable that will be fairly quiet?

As your not a massive gamer why not go for a 4771. It can't be overclocked like the k but has extra instructions built in which help with multi core editing.

Another option is the 2011 socket. Get a 4820k. The motherboard will be more expensive but you'll have more RAM slots and the ability to grab a 4930k later if the 4820k doesn't cut the mustard...

Cheers everyone for the advice so far.
Sounds like the 4771 may be a better bet than the 4770k then. I haven't overclocked anything since I had a Pentium 3 many moons ago so it's a safe bet I won't be bothering with it for this PC!

As for RAM speeds, I just went for 1600MHz as higher speeds were mentioned with OC by them on the motherboard page, which I took to mean that those speeds were available when overclocking. If that's not the case then I'll go for some faster RAM.

In terms of power supply as well, I have no idea what's required for something of this spec. I'll have 2 SSDs, 3 HDDs and a DVD drive in addition to the main bits. If 550W will be fine for this and will save some money then it's probably a better option.

its says OC on the ram under mobo specs which means you can run that ram at that speed by changing the xmp profile in the bios to the speed of the ram :D very easy to do, plenty online to show you how to

Cool, good to know. Last time I built a PC was close to 10 years ago (last one was off the shelf) and things have changed a bit since then :p

Yeah the 4771 has an extra instruction set whic may help you:

It the Intel® TSX-NI:

Intel® Transactional Synchronization Extensions New Instructions (Intel® TSX-NI) are a set of instructions focused on multi-threaded performance scaling. This technology helps make parallel operations more efficient via improved control of locks in software.

My build suggestion would be:
