Help with new system please

Do not buy a i3. The Kabylake Pentiums from the G4560 and up all have HT so makes a complete mockery of the i3 prices. Either go with a G4560 coupled with a B250 motherboard or a i5. Don't even consider the i3 now.

Will the g4560 be enough? I'm not bothered about ultra settings as long as I can play on standard settings comfortably.

So I've put a build together with various parts linked on this thread including the b250 and g4560 and I've got to £640 including mouse and keyboard which seems very reasonable! I'd like to link my basket here but not sure how to do it as I'm on my phone (Galaxy S6).

You guys have been a massive help, I think I would've just put together a potato pc without your help!

The Superflower Golden Green HX450w is a much better psu for only another £3.

OP, the G4560 is actually a very capable cpu and is probably the best "bang for buck" cpu that we have had in recent years. You can always drop a i5/i7 in at a later date as well.

I've managed to get a price of £610 now including windows and a decent mouse and keyboard after tweaking a few bits. Hopefully going to be ordering it all at some point over this weekend.

I'll upload a picture when I'm done if anyone's interested to see it :)

Please keep sending any other suggestions that may bring the price down some more, thinking of buying it through the business so I could get up and running for about £490 +VAT!

If you buy it through your own business, you could reclaim the VAT and depreciate it - ask your accountant! Do be aware that it will be a business asset and not your own.

What have you "tweaked" to bring the cost down that much?

Just because a psu has 400w on the label doesn't mean that it can output that on the 12v rail where it's needed. The XFX XT 400w actually has only 360w on the 12v rail while the Superflower HX350w has 348w on it's 12v rail. You are only losing 12w. Not only that but the XFX is a budget psu built down to a price and is only bronze rated with a 3 year warranty. The Superflower is gold rated with a 5 year warranty. I would take the Superflower over the XFX anyday. It's hard to believe but that Superflower would power the overclocked pc in my siggy!!

One other change I would make is to swap the motherboard for the Gigabyte B250M-D3H as it has a heatsink for the vrm's and better connectivity. I think a extra fiver is worth paying and while not having a heatsink on the vrm's may not be so important when using the Pentium it will make a difference when you drop in a more powerful cpu in the future and is a better option than having to buy a new motherboard.

That looks good to me although it could be even better if you can scrape the cash together to include a SSD in the build. They really do make a difference with loading times.

One other thing I would probably change is the memory. This kit is the same price, slightly slower (B250 boards are limited to 2400mhz anyway) but has much tighter timings which will make up for some of the speed difference.

I didn't include a SSD purely to keep the price down but I am very tempted to put one in anyway. And i'll swap to that RAM if it'll make a difference, still hovering over the "checkout" button lol

I found a SSD can really help with the "smoothness" of a game along with reducing boot and loading times. I wouldn't be without one now and don't have any hdd's in my pc at all. Instead I have a 250Gb ssd for Windows and other programs and a 960Gb ssd for Steam. One thing I would say is that don't even bother with a 60Gb one as you will fill it in no time. I found the same to be true with a 120Gb SSD but everyone uses them differently so a 120Gb would be the minimum to consider. Avoid the Kingston V300 range as they changed the chips after the reviews so they are nowhere near as fast as claimed. Shop around for a ssd as well. I got a couple of bargains last year with my two and got the SK Hynix SL301 250Gb for just £42 and the Sandisk Ultra II 960Gb for just £156. While they are not as fast as the Samsung Evo they are also not far off them which made my choices very good value for money. The drop in value of the pound will have pushed prices up though.

As for the rest of the selection, swap the memory over to the one I suggested and click the buy button. :)

make sure you get an SSD.. even just for OS, will be so much faster. In computer world an SSD actually lets you polish a turd :)
