Help with NTL Modem to Ethernet to Router

I think the problem was Phnom suggested using a bit of crossover cable, and Hank said he's used a bit of straight through.

The cable NTL would supply with the modem would likely be straight through too - though AFAIK the WAN port on the WRT is autosensing.

Although, obviously it's going to be weird once connected to the router because if the computer has no ethernet port, how will it connect to the router? If that's why you're confused?
Well yer, if his pc hasn't got a ethernet port, hows he connecting to the router?

well im connecting the modem to the router, and the computer connects to the router wirelessly.

The cable came with the router so im using that piece to connect the router and modem.

are i think i understand, modem to router would use different cable than router to computer. correct?

like computer to computer is straight through right? but routet to computer is cross over?

Computer to Computer = Cross over
Computer to Router = Either as the switch ports on the router would auto-sense
Modem to Router = Should be either, but depends on the WAN port on the router.

is the linksys WRT54GL auto sensing, and what cable would it need to connect to the modem.

I don't know to be honest having never used one, but I would expect it to be. If it isn't, then I think a straight cable is what you need, but having never used one...

well i tried my streight through cable that i use on my router - pc and that didn't work, i hav 30 meters of cross over so i could try that.
