Help with parts for new build

Hello everyone.

First of all I hope I am posting in the right part of the forums.

After a few months on and off finding the parts best suited for me, I have (finally) managed to decide most parts. Here is a list:

Hardware:
CPU: Intel Core I7 2600K
GPU: 2 x Zotac GeForce GTX 580
PSU: Corsair AX 1200
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7-B3
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) CL8 1600MHz
Case: Corsair Obsidian 800D
Monitor: BenQ XL2410T
SSD: Vertex 3 Max IOPS 240GB
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB 7200RPM
Soundcard: Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1
Fan controller: Scythe Kaze Master Pro
Blu-ray/DVD-rom: LG BH10LS30
3D-equipment: Nvidia GeForce 3D kit
Thermal paste: Arctic Cooling MX-4
120mm fans: 3 x Scythe Gentle Typhoon AP-15 1850RPM
Cleaning kit: Arctic Silver ArctiClean 1 & 2 Cleaning kit

If anyone were wondering. I have selected the Zotac GTX 580 cards because they are reference, and I am 90% sure I will be ordering watercooling from the US in not too long.

I am pretty set on most of these items, but I just want to hear others opinions. The item that I am most unsure about is the monitor, but I have another thread about that if someone wants to help out: Monitor thread

(If there are anything left unclear in the thread, please feel free to say so. My English and grammar is probabably not the best, so I will just blame it on me being Norwegian :p)

nothing wrong with that build atall. was going to suggest a moneysaver for the ram, but i guess your getting this from somewhere else, because the zotac 580X isnt available from here

(dont say where though, we cant discuss competitors here)

just out of interest, are you going for the gigabyte UD7 because it has x16/x16 crossfire?
if you are, then dont bother. x8/x8 is about £100 cheaper, and will be just as good: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/08/23/gtx_480_sli_pcie_bandwidth_perf_x16x16_vs_x8x8

Haha yes, I was about to link to the shop, but remembered from reading other threads that you are not allowed to. Not that they really are competitors as they are a Norwegian shop, but whatever (Norwegian shops = much, much more expensive).

As for the motherboard (and this is going to make some people laugh/rage) I acctually want the looks of it, not that the performance and build quality is a negative. Love that Gigabyte have gone away from the "baby-blueish" color. At least on this motherboard.

whats a Z68 going to do for him?

as far as i can remember, its only features are PCIe V3, the ability to use the onboard graphics and quad channel memory, all of which the OP really doesnt need. (feel free to bombard me with stuff that the OP will need that the Z series can do, but the P series cant)
 
I just feel it looks much more "boring" with this part missing. And I think the PCI/PCIe layout on the UD7 is much better then on the UD4. From what I have heard and read the Z68 is acctually not ment to replace the P67, and that the P67 is still the "high-end" (if you can call Sandy Bridge that atm) motherboards.

Edit: One thing I find hard is finding a black SLI bridge...

A Z68 has.

1. Integrated graphics support and overclocking
2. Use of Quicksync for video transcoding
3. SSD Caching
 
Z68 offers SSD caching and Quick Sync transcoding acceleration while the P67 doesn't. Not sure what the main use of the PC is but if its video encoding or similar maybe Z68 is worth it.
 
From what I see SSD caching is not really something I would be using if I go for the 240GB version of the Vertex 3 as a boot drive? And from my understanding I thought the P67 could already overclock (or has this something to do with the UEFI stuff?)?

The only real benefit I could see coming in handy is the integrated graphics for video encoding, which I don't really do a lot of at the time being. The main use of the computer is gaming (and programming), but as my study (master in computer science) progresses I might find myself doing other stuff on the computer as well.

You can:) but no integrated gpu support.

The H67 wont overclock but does use the integrated GPU.

The X68 can do both.

The UEFI is just a type of BIOS interface, it looks nicer and easier to understand.


Do what Reaper says, save a bundle:)
