I recently bought a set of identicle hard drives with the intention to use them both in raid 0. i went through all the set up changed controller to raid , raided the two drives. The problem i face is when i go to install windows at the start a window appears telling me that i need to install a cd device driver before it will let me continue.

I assumed this to mean i need to install some sort of raid drivers which i downloaded from the ASUS site, would i need to make a ISO disk to install them or would just putting them on a disc work?

Mobo is a Asus croshair III

What OS are you using? W7 should just install (not sure about Vista), XP does require the RAID driver though.

You can install this using a floppy or a bootable USB stick.

This is exactly whats said during installation of Win7

"Load Driver

A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy Disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive please insert it now."

Hope this helps a little more

just put them on a usb key, or cd etc. then when you click the "load driver" button itll either auto find them or you can manually point it at them.

Try optical device on another SATA port (make sure it is on the ICH10R cont), or if IDE, try other connector on cable, try diffent cable, try another optical device...

When setting up/installling RAID + OS make sure no other HDDs are connected, but just the 2 for your RAID0 setup + optical device...

If RAID0 is setup, then ICH10R drivers will install automatically during the install process of Win 7 and Vista, however, for XP they need to be loaded from Floppy...

When i use an old IDE drive to install the OS it gets a little bit further to the stage where i have to select which drive to save to. except my raid array isn't there :(, dispite it showing as a functional array in the bios. As soon as i change the sata controller to RAID nothing seems to work properly on the sata ports, not even a sata optical drive .

Ok finally have Win7 installing on my drive :p
Thanks go out to all who helped, especially JBloggs for suggesting the use of a IDE drive to get things kick started.

Turns out it was to do with the 790fx chip set not being support in RAID in the native Win7 environment (well atleast my version wasn't). So in the end i had to go through the following steps:

-dig out an old IDE drive ( thanks to Jbloggs)
-go to the asus site and get the new AHIC drivers for win 7 and putting them on a disc
-disable digital signature enforcement during the installation ( as for some reason Windows wouldn't accept them with this feature on, even after this only one of the drivers would work anyway.
-select and install the drive, swop back to the OS CD and continue the installation.

So three hours and a considerable amount of stress later:eek: i have RAID 0 up and running!:D (hopes for the speed increase to be worth it!)

Thanks, Technics
