Help With Rooting 7" 4.0 Android 'GoTab GBT740RS'

I received this tablet as a Christmas bonus: http://www.ergoelectronics.com/products/7-inch-gotab-android-tablet-gbt740rs#.UPMpVmSnwVU

I've tried superoneclick which reported that it was already rooted but I still haven't been able to access system files. I'm trying to root it to fix a problem with the inbuilt dictionary.

I've already tried installing a couple of keyboard and dictionary apps with no success.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

It highlights most words as wrong. I have checked to make sure it's set to the right language. Apparently it's a problem with some of the cheap Chinese tablets.

Yeah, tried that, just tells me permission denied (are you root). Seems like a chicken and egg scenario with that program.

Okay so tried it again and it got through the initial recovery process but froze on reboot so had to do a complete reset of the device. Looks like I won't be able to root this one

Sorry - wish I could be more help.

Managed to get it rooted using this script:

It can now spell craic properly

(this has greatly reduced the confusion with my dealer...)

Hi nickelbabe, should just be able to open it with your archive manager of choice. Try right clicking, select open with and pick explorer if you're still having problems. Perhaps try downloading it again in case the .zip file has become corrupt. If you still can't open it then I recommend 7zip, you can download it here: www.7-zip.org/

After that you should have a .bat file which you simply double click to launch. Just make sure that the tablet is connected, set to usb debugging mode and that unknown sources is enabled.

Glad you got it sorted. I didn't have any driver issues when rooting mine from Windows 7 but I think I did mine from my 32-bit laptop rather than my 64-bit desktop.
