Hey there

Well I bought a new SATA hard drive today cos my old hard drive crashed. I've installed the new SATA one correctly and as how my motherboard manual says but when I startup my PC nothing happens, like theres no signal to my monitor. At first I thought it was because my monitor was attached to my graphics card and that hasn't been installed yet cos of the new hard drive so I attached my monitor to the main motherboard and it's still now working. Nothing happens at all, just no signal on my monitor and it goes to standby mode. Please could anyone help me with this.

Thanks for your help and time.

What mobo as some will need a driver on a floppy to let windows see the drive (need XP-SP1 at least on CD), or is this adding a drive to a already Windows installed PC ?

My motherboard is an ASRock P4i65G, and no, basically it's a totally new hard drive which I bought from PC World earlier today cos my old hard drive crashed. So it's a blank hard ddrive with nothing on it at all.

Well newer mobos can install a SATA drive with Windows XP-SP1 on a CD and a driver avail on floppy or if the XPSP1 already supports your SATA contoler like the NF4/5 mobos, it wont support Silicon Controlers and you need a floppy with driver.

If not some Intel mobos have option to change to PATA/Eide mode to get HDD installed, think its also called AHCI mode.

Im not 100% on Intel mobos and the modes did confuse me at times.

Hmmm, I still don't really understand what to do from here then, I have Windows XP on discs but when I put the discs in the drive it does nothing. I've also tried putting the motherboard disc in and that does nothing either. Basically there is nothing going to my monitor, theres no signal at all.

Well issue could be the fact you have 2 GPU's 1 is onboard other is dedicated, you say you tried both, but remove the card and check mobo for jumpers or bios setting for this, they can be a PIA at times.

My screen says 'RGB No Input Signal', and all of my hardware is in correctly, like my RAM and stuff, like I haven't knocked anything out when I have been setting it up. =\

What are the full specs for your machine?
Its possible that you knocked a cable out. Does the fan spin up on the cpu? More importantly, are there any beeps from the case speaker (assuming you have one?)
