Hi,

Just got my second msi 780 tf oc to run SLI. My main concern is that I was playing ESO and my 1st card was hitting max of 80c and the 2nd was hitting 61c.

These were taken from msi afterburner. I have increased the fan speen to 100% on the 1st card.

I have them in a corsair 540 and the mobo is msi gaming 7.

Any ideas??

Thanks.

That's what happens when you SLI. Only solution is move the bottom card further down or watercool.

Though 80C isn't too bad.

That is correct, I have tried to put in the bottom slot but some of the headers like usb and fan are in the way.

I use same case and this how mine fits

Nog sure about pcie 2.0 at x8 vs gen 3.0 at x8. But for sli be it dual or triple, all slots need to be x8. The only z87/97 boards that do 3 x8 slots are the PLX boards that cost an awful lot, Maximus extreme 6 on z87 being one example.

Yeah my Asus p8z77 ws is PLX board.

Doesn't matter as much with xfire as you can run AMD cards in a x4 slot. I'm in a similar position as my board only has two slots capable of being utilised for sli. Even if I were to add another pcie device into the bottom red slot, sli would be disabled. Only options are to go single card, watercool or buy a PLX board to get better spacing.

Indeed, the mainstream 1150 boards are only meant for dual sli. Even mine in sig which was a pretty expensive board at £260.00, kinda wish now id bought the Maximus 6 extreme a mate offered me a while back.

Try setting a custom fan profile, also can your case take a side fan or can you get a fan behind the cards to blow air between both?

I will set the top card to 100% and the 3 x 120 intake at the front I will set to 100% and see what temps I get.

Not front fans, but SIDE fan.

Front fans will push air to back side of your case, where hot air blown outside cards will cumulate (PCIe cards region).
Side fan will give directly cool air to PCIe #1 fan card, and will help to spread hot air inside the case. Then, BOTTOM (if any) fan will help move hot air to the top - where it will be sucked out the case by outtake fans. If you set FRONT fans to the max - hot air will come back to back the case and will be sucked in by PCIE #1 card again = which will not help. I presumed your MSI card spreads hot air inside the case (not OTES which blows hot air outside the case) towards its front.

BTW, in my old SLI rig SIDE fan worked better (1-2 degs lower for PCIe #1 card) when set to OUTTAKE, not INTAKE :)

just get decent airflow going, if can add a side fan that can help, or a bracket that holds 2x 120mm fans like I have
