Help with speccing ram/Gpu

looking to order upgrades before the weekend but I don't know what to order

need 8 gig of ram for a start

currently got 4 1gig samsung PC3-10700 667Mhz
looking to spend around 60?

and I have a GTX460 that's just had its day now
can I get a worthwhile upgrade for around the 100 mark?

PC is used for gaming nothing crazy cs:go lol bf3

and whilst I have your attention in the next few months I want to get an SSD which is a good price:performance one too get?

You might as well go for some 1600MHz ram as i doubt it will support 2400MHz. The Teamgroup black would be a good choice. Windows 7 64Bit will support 8GB+ depending on what version you have.
 
OS is home premium 64bit

i cant seem to find any information on my mobo. PC was originally a Dell jobby, but upgraded after a few years

Windows 7 64bit Home Premium allows up to 16GB Ram.

Have you tried overclocking your current i5 ? I don't know how good a Dell board would be for that but it might be worth a try first before spending on a new cpu/board.
You can get a cheap cooler for around the £20 mark.

Can you find out the make/model of the psu ? There should be a sticker on the side of it.
 
Hmm Powercool is not a good brand :( You would need to get a new psu before contemplating a new graphics card.

Something like this would be a good solid option. Does your case take a standard ATX size power supply (As below) ? I know that some of the mass produced pc's can have some non standard parts in them.

it seems like my best option is to save abit more money and do a complete PC overhaul as everything seems to be abit dated

If you want to upgrade the cpu/gpu/motherboard/ram/case then you are probably looking around £500

could I use my old graphics card for a short while and buy the rest now? and get a new card at a later date?

will these builds be upgradable in the future?

you could yes. The AMD build isn't very upgrade-able CPU wise. The Intel route may be more upgrade-able in the futute but, AMD is cheaper in the first place. I would go the AMD route and get the best graphics card that you can. a FX-6300 and a R9 280 is a great combination.
