This problem has been going on for about 6 months or so now.. and is drving me nuts..

I have a WD 320gb drive connect to the 2nd SATA port onmy DFI Expert, 1st SATA is WD Raptor...

Every now and again, sometimes on a daily basis.. I hear the drive (WD320) clunk, spin down... then spin back up again.. during this time, windows usually freezes and I get errors in log about disk problem...

I have swapped the SATA ports over (to eliminate the port itself), and it still happens to the WD320 and no probs with the Raptor... Its almost like it looses power for a few seconds... it can happen a few times in a row, and sometimes causes BSOD.... sometimes it wont happen at all!!!!

Ive run all the WD diagnostic tests, and checked SMART status.. and all PASS with no indication of any problems whatsoever...

I want to RMA it but fear they will find nothing wrong with it.. I dont trust it any more and have moved all of my stuff off it... what can I do????

Go get the WD Lifeguard diagnostics from their site and run those. If they return an error then an RMA is the way to go.

As Ive pointed out, Ive run all the diagnostic tests, from the quick to the extended..!! They report no errors...

What do they actually test.. maybe the disk surface is fine, but what about the electronics or mechanics of the drive...??

Vista... not on my pc..lol!!! Its taken M$ 6 yeats to get XP stable!!!

Not using the molex..using the native SATA power connection.. will tyr a few other power connecitons/cable tonight...

my old maxtor DM+9 did this. was a loose molex. make sure the plug is stable, all conductors are clean and gettng good contact. if the drive allows, swap the sata power for molex.

I posted about it at the time and got the usual flaming "ive working in computers for 97 years and enver have i seen a loose molex" etcetc..
give it a try :P
