As I have finally made my 5.0 a 5.1 I now need to setup a new Subwoofer properly. Something I haven't done before.

The kit I have is

Denon AVR2311
MA Silver RX8 fronts
MA Silver RX Centre
MA Silver RX1 surrounds
Wharfedale SW150 Sub

The Sub is probably not worthy of the rest of the kit, but as I live in an apartment with ceramic floors I really didn't want anything too loud, plus it fits aesthetically with the rest of my kit, was well priced and has the WAF (plus BK wouldnt ship anything to me for less than 400 quid just for the postage!)

So, questions..
  • Should I have my MA speakers set to "large", "small" or a mix of the two?
  • What should the Crossover freq on the Sub be set to?
  • DENON MANUAL SETUP -> SPEAKER SETUP ->
  • SW MODE = LFE or LFE + ?
  • LPF for LFE (LFE singnal Playback range) = 250Hz?
  • DENON MANUAL SETUP -> SPEAKER SETUP ->CROSSOVER FREQ
  • Crossover - Front = ?HZ
  • Crossover Center = ?Hz
  • Crossover Surround =?Hz
  • or Crossover all = ?Hz

I have played around with a few combinations and have got it sounding ok, but im sure I could be doing much better with input from some of the experts here.

Thanks in advance

  • Should I have my MA speakers set to "large", "small" or a mix of the two?
MA Silver RX8 fronts - Small
MA Silver RX Centre - Small
MA Silver RX1 surrounds - Small
Wharfedale SW150 Sub -Subwoofer present - YES, but size isn't applicable

  • What should the Crossover freq on the Sub be set to?
  • DENON MANUAL SETUP -> SPEAKER SETUP ->
-80Hz
  • SW MODE = LFE or LFE + ? -This is usually whether 2Ch music is played with bass directed to the sub only (LFE) or Sub and front speakers (LFE+) - it's your choice
  • LPF for LFE (LFE singnal Playback range) = 250Hz? -Check your manual if this is separate to the crossover frequency of the mains and refers to music use only. Otherwise I'd go with 80Hz or 100Hz to match the crossover freq
  • DENON MANUAL SETUP -> SPEAKER SETUP ->CROSSOVER FREQ
  • Crossover - Front = ?HZ -80 or 100Hz as above
  • Crossover Center = ?Hz -80 or 100Hz as above
  • Crossover Surround =?Hz -80 or 100Hz as above
  • or Crossover all = ?Hz

Much better now thanks. The bass in music (DnB tested) is more than sufficient for my room and I now have that fuller sound in movies which I wasn't getting from the RX8s.
Mind you I do have the have the level on the Sub cranked up to about 7, and I can only choose a crossover of 75 or 85 on it, so I went for 75. But its not bad for the price (about 170gbp)

thanks again :D
