Hello guys, I'm new to the forum and I'd really like some of your opinions.

To cut a long story short I've been out for work for a few months but finally have a few job interviews next week (Hurrah!) and as a reward, if I am successful my partner is going to treat me to a brand new keyboard and mouse set up as a 'well done' gift but have no idea what to tell her I want.

Cost is irrelevant (I can pick anything I want) but equally I don't want to just buy the most expensive keyboard and mouse. Just a bit of back ground:

- I currently am using a well used Logitech G15 and razer death adder that I have had for a number of years. Both have serious wear and tear.
- I mainly play strategy and FPS games.
- I have no interest in Macro keys and rarely play MMO's.
- I mainly use a 'claw grip' for my Razer mouse but sometimes get pains in my fingers and thumb as I have nerve damage from a childhood accident on my mouse hand, I'd therefore like a mouse where I can have some customization and switch more to a 'palm grip'.
- I want a mechanical keyboard.
- Form factor is somewhat important, if I have no cost restrictions I may as well get something that looks cool.
- I often game in low light conditions so back lights for mouse and keyboard would be a big bonus, the keyboard in particular.

Any ideas or opinions from you guys of what to ask my partner to get for me would be much appreciated.

Cheers guys.

These kind of things are all personal preference... but for my 2 cents worth.. I picked up both the Osmium Aivia k/b and Krypton mouse from Gigabyte.

Look into those. KB is around £100, and the mouse was £45-50

Price no option, Filco keyboard for sure.

And a Zowie mouse.

I've never understood why people say they need backlights for gaming in low light. When do you look at your keyboard when gaming? Maybe typing in low light but then surely you would just learn to touch type to save your eyes? Although if you want back light just because it "looks cool" then get a ducky.

That mouse looks absolutely ridiculous. Not only that, it looks extremely uncomfortable.

What's making you choose that mouse?

Actually after doing my research I've decided to focus on a different mouse. My reason for picking the mouse was purely from a cosmetic standpoint. I've seen been looking at everyone suggestions and doing my research and am now considering the Corsair Vengeance M65 Laser Gaming Mouse

I have the Razer Mamba 2012 (mouse) and the Corsair K70 (kb) and I love them both. Would be worth having a read of some reviews once you have a good idea of the kind of thing you want.

How come you're looking at mices with 8200 DPI. You've linked 2 so far. Do you think higher the DPI, the better the mouse? Just generally curious.

If you want an FPS mouse, just go DA/Zowie route. No need for these flash 8.2k DPI mices that look like crap.

I have had a lot of mice in the past and for me Zowie are the best (simple but very effective for FPS games), and if you haven't had a mechanical keyboard before I would suggest you find a shop to try the various switches out the feel of them is very different between the colours.

Well hello there fellow uncutlateralus, You asked and I shalt come with information.

I'm a palm player myself, and I'm quite picky with mice. As your current situation your wanting a customisable mouse for a more comfortable "you grip" I'd have to suggest Mad Catz Cyborg range if your wanting to really fine tune it for your hand injury although having not used these mice for any form of gaming I couldn't comment on there performance, although i'm sure some forum members have so they can tell you about them. I'd suggest maybe if you live near our OcUK Shop, possibly coming in and testing the range of mice we have, to see which fits best? as with your condition with the wrist, notably a mouse which suggests comfortable for one person might be different for another.

Although if that isn't an option I could possibly introduce you too some highly respected "palm grip" mice your a Deathadder user at the moment they are probably i'd say one of the best palm gripped mice out there currently as they have an ergonomic shell, this can also be said about the Zowie mice, which some have suggest earlier in the thread.

I'd say a comfortable mouse / pad setup that you could have would be maybe playing on a Steelseries QCK+ Heavy Mousepad, which has a thicker foam, which is raised as there is more foam, which should relive pressure from prolonged use which might help when being palm gripped.

Keyboard wise, I'd say if money is no option i'd go for the Ducky range, as they do keyboards in all types and there fully customisable and all Cherry switch types and I cannot find any flaws with them, when choosing switch type though I'd suggest looking at this sticky thread about keyboards http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18523430

I don't think the Corsair Vengeance M65 looks like crap and you are certainly not required to use the whole 8.2k dpi...

I use the Razer Mamba and i'm about to buy the Corsair Vengeance K95.

But I don't think anyone can go wrong with...
Mouse: Razer DA 2013, Mamba or Corsair Vengeance M65
Keyboard: Corsair Vengeance K70 or K95 if you need the macro keys
