When I purchased my '59 plate Seat Leon FR at the start of last year, I also (Foolishly) bought an extended warranty from the dealer. The warranty runs for three years and cost £3-400 or thereabouts, can't remember exactly. Anyway, only now after a year have I actually got hold of the booklet detailing the conditions of the warranty (At the time, it was more of a "Any problems, bring it here in the next three years and we'll sort it *wink*" type arrangement), and I have a couple of concerns.

First off, the booklet states the car should be serviced in accordance with the manufacturer advice, at a Verdu Motors Group garage (Car was bought from a Verdu Motors Group dealer). However, having not known this to be a requirement until now, I have had car was serviced at a local garage twice, and once just outside of the manufacturer recommendation. The car should have been serviced every 10k miles, but has instead been done at 10k (Prev Owner), 20k (Prev Owner), 28k (Dealer), 40k (Me), 50k (Me). The jump from 28k-40k (Although slightly delayed by the fact the dealer lost the service book and I had to chase Seat for a replacement and get it stamped) is technically in excess of the 10k recommended by Seat.

The booklet page in question is here (Second paragraph on the left hand page details servicing requirements): http://i.imgur.com/hRmhPdk.jpg?1

On the one hand, they use statements like "If you fail to have your vehicle serviced in accordance with this requirement the cover provided by this warranty will end", which seems pretty cut and dry, however they also say things like "In order to maintain the benefit of the warranty", which makes it sound more like advice. Also, the service section is under the header "Maintaining your warranty", rather than "Things that could invalidate your warranty".

I never received the booklet when we bought the car, and so had no idea I had to meet these conditions, however we did sign to say we agreed to the terms and conditions (Which I guess these are), and more importantly, I've no way of proving I never got the booklet I suppose.

Any thoughts or advice? I've contacted them online but they've not replied and I'm reluctant to ring them for fear of admitting fault and invalidating it there and then!

Waste of money, probably also a waste of money before you didn't follow their stringent terms and conditions.
Bin it and move on (hoping nothing breaks)

Why did you sign to accept a set of terms and conditions which you had never seen?!

However miniyazz is probably right. These warranties tend to have a list of exclusions longer than your arm, meaning that chances are you'll be left paying for both the warranty, and anything that breaks while you're "covered".

My Dad was actually the person who bought the warranty, I told him not to but he insisted as he thought it a "Good deal" (Which to be fair, even with the exceptions listed in the T&C's, it would have been had there been a problem). He's a product of a different generation and I guess he took the guy at his word of "We'll fix anything" rather than look at him through the cynical eyes I do :p

I guess I can at least get him a partial refund according to this: http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rig...if-you-want-to-cancel-your-extended-warranty-

When it bought my last car I niavely bought an extended warranty, similar to yours it needed servicing at the selling dealer which I didn't bother with. Still paid out for a replacement rear wiper motor without question.

Interesting, did you have the work done at their garage?

Mine has to be done with them, but I doubt they'd be the cheapest, so I'm reluctant to get them to fix anything for twice the price of a regular garage if they turn around and say nope, you're paying?

Dealer paid warranties are awful and really not worth it. Its another way for them to increase their margins. But why did you buy a warranty for a 59 play Leon? Cant be much on it to go wrong?

The only warranties I think are worth it are manufacture backed ones. Personally dont worry about it, if it breaks then you will see how good it is...

The important bit is 'if YOU fail....' If the late service was before your ownership then you have no control over that. The only thing they could get you on is that you didn't get it serviced at the recommended dealer/agent and did it yourself.

I guess the question that should be asked is.. do you have a problem with it?

Have you tried to claim on the warranty or are you simply going by the T&C's in front of you? The dealer may not have read them either and there's a chance there won't be a problem.
