BRIEFING TOPIC FOR NEXT WEEK: You're in Dortmund and you want to buy lots of jagaarbombs, cheap netto ameretto and an uncle toms dinner. Its the end of the month and you are poor so you borrow €50 euros from CC2 and €50 euros from CC3. You only spend €97 euros on jagaarbombs and netto goodies so you give cc2 €1 and cc3 €1 and keep a €1 for you. This means you now owe them€49 euros. So... €49 euros and €49 euros = €98 plus the €1 euro you kept where is the missing €1?

It's in your pocket.

You've borrowed $98 as it says, you've spend $97 on booze and $1 is left over.

This is what, the third thread with had with this expressed in different ways in the last few months ...

There isn't a missing €1 ...

€1 was returned to each of them hence the loan is now 2x49 instead of 2x50.

2x49 = 98 = 97 (paid for booze) + 1 (you kept)

The 100 no longer comes into it and the 1 you pocketed is part of the 98 not added to it.

STFU AND GET BACK IN THE KITCHEN WENCH

should be the advised answer in this scenario.

What? It isnt even a problem.

You had £100

You spent £97

You therefore had £3 left.

You paid £1 onto each credit card, leaving you with £1

You still owe the credit card companies £98.

What is the problem?

You're adding an extra €1 into the equation when it doesn't belong.

Let's go through this in order
1) You borrow €50 from CC2 and €50 from CC3 so that's €100 total available
2) You spend €97 on various goods
3) You return €1 to CC2 leaving you with an outstanding debt of €49 to them, at the same time you also return €1 to CC3 and again you've got an outstanding debt of €49 with them so you are indebted to a total of €98 (i.e. €49*2)
4) Hopefully you're with me so far because the €1 that you've "kept" for yourself is simply the difference between what you owe i.e. €98 and what you've spent i.e. €97.
5) No money has been "lost", nothing exciting has happened except that the way the question is worded is meant to make you think that there's an increase in money somehow.
