OK, so years ago my younger brother bought this crap: http://reviews.cnet.com/Alienware_Area_51_7500_Intel_Core_2_Extreme_X6800/4505-3118_7-31985428.html

I was at University at the time and didn't know about this purchase... he also has a MacBook!

Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 2.93 GHz
NVidia nForce4 SLI
RAM 2.0 GB
Technology DDR II SDRAM
Hard Drive 250.0 GB - Standard - Serial ATA
Read Speed 16x (DVD)
NVidia GeForce 7900GTX SLI

I'm not even sure if there's any point trying to salvage anything from the Alienware PC? He's looking to put everything in a new case and money is tight... he only really plays Starcraft 2 and streams a bit. Could someone maybe spec something using as much from the Alienware PC as possible? (something he can upgrade later when he has money cash)

Why does he want to change it about? Is it not performing properly? Is it too noisy? etc.

Well it sounds like it's about to blow up lol... it's always been noisy but lately the buzzing noise coming from it is pretty bad, has gotten louder. Plus it runs slow and it's embarrassing to look at!

Find what's buzzing, and swap it out.
Get 4 or 8gb DDR2 and change the 7900GTXs for a reasonable single card.
what cooler is on the X6800? Should be able to get a slightly higher clock out of it.
Could also maybe try and pick up a cheap SSD for Windows/apps, if not, a reinstall of Windows should help.

There's no sense going for an expensive full system upgrade if he's just playing Starcraft 2 and streaming stuff, especially if money is tight. Case looks are individual preference I guess.
The CPU is still reasonable enough, and they used to ship with quality PSUs.
