Hi, I have decided it's about time that I upgraded my pc a little, I'vev budgeted an absolute max of £200, less the better though being a student! By paying for this, as it is I will have to live off cardboard and gravy for 2 weeks :) My current spec is:

Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16ghz
4 x 1gb Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 @ 833mhz 5-5-5-15
ASUS P5W DH Deluxe i975X
ATI Radeon 4870 512mb
Raptor 150gb & WD 500gb (SATA)
Creative X-Fi
2x IDE DVD-RW drives
Hiper Type R 580w

Now I kid ye not, but the motherboard and a lot of the components are coming up to 2 1/2 years old now, if not older, but it is the motherboard and PSU which I am concerned about at the moment.

Firstly the motherboard, despite what Asus' website, it really doesn't like the E8500 (not that surprised) and you have to run the memory at a funny speed, plus speedstep won't work. I'm looking at a solid motherboard, preferably by Asus (always done well with them, so why change?) and I have no plan to overclock, SHOCK, HORROR! I've been looking at the P5Q -Deluxe and the P5E-Deluxe; can't find much about the latter of those two, but it seems to be cheaper and I appreciate the simplicity of the board (my current one has so many features I truly don't need!). I have also noticed the P5Q-E/Wifi on Asus' website, I use wireless whilst at uni, so that would be of use although I don't think it's for sale yet. Any suggestions on this would be appreciated!

Secondly, my trusty old Hiper has started getting loud.. could never hear it before. Anyway, considering what I have read about them as of late, it's made me a little paranoid! Just want an efficient, quiet and modular replacement. Thanks guys

Get rid of that psu. Now

And get a P45 motherboard.

+1
